Valve Cover Gasket Sealant... Where does it go?

Howdy guys and gals,

Im just finishing up my valve adjustment (ALL closers were a little loose, but none of the openers were too tight... I guess seafoam works!).

Anyway. It mentions adding gasket sealant to some corners, somewhere? Are the red circles that I've made the correct location?

I'm guessing just a dab between the gasket and the "engine" metal side?

I have never need it but I see where Kul is talking about. Back in auto shop class (highschool) in the late nineteen hundreds our teacher talked about sealant that I always held on to. He said that if you are to add any sealant to any gasket it should be applied very thinly to that whole surface. His reasoning is that there will be a seam between where the sealant stops and the actual gasket starts sealing and can create a leak over time. Applying it with purpose in one spot while leaving a thin bit over the rest of the allows the sealant to smoosh into where it needs with no seams. I probably am over explaining/thinking this and Im not sure if that's true but for some reason I have held onto that info.

i never had an issue with pulling the covers and putting them back on with a bit of oil around the rubber.

Thanks for the confirmation y'all! And the sealant story makes sense to me.

Im going to put THE SMALLEST amount at the half moon corners just to follow the book - but knowing that I'd probably be ok without it anyway.

I just don't want to be back in here in a long time (maybe even ever, I'll probably sell the bike before I put another 18k on). Pulling the tank sucks (even if it's easy, per say. Just seems "unnecessary" to perfectionist brain... Or I've had the bike long enough  )

Rant over. Time to put back the damn horizontal header back on lol

My biggest fear with sealing the engine case was bleed over on the internal side. I don't think I had any problems with the job(s) I did but the OCD in me had to be sure every surface had enough sealant. The bleed over on the open side wasn't too bad but I always hated thinking about what squeezed into the case. I would be more worried with the valve section.
