Waterproof pannier: Ghetto solution

There is any prize like a Gold Shovel?

Anyone tried to rub paraffin on the panniers and blow it with a hot air pistol?
I used to do this in my boots to turn it waterproof.

When you rub the paraffin the surface looks like scratched and white, but the airblowing make it melt and penetrate

I'd have thought a good bet would be the sort of slicone spray they sell for rain-proofing outdoor clothing and tents. Or dubbin for boots...

I use thin waterproofsacks for stuff that shouldn't get wet - but the bags are pretty water proof. I did get these for standby and for another set of bags on another bike: Amazon product ASIN B07WMV1CB4Cheap, and pack away small for when you need them.
