what tyres are you on?

Hi, I am in need of my first replacement set of tyres and was wondering what to get?
I have done 4500 miles and the front tyre has worn out before the rear, although the rear is nearly there.
On my previous bike, Ducati ST2, I used to get 7000 miles out of a front and 5000 from a rear. I was running Avon Storms.
Any opinions welcome.

Hi Guy,

I was the same, front was worn on the sides at 4500 miles, I just fitted the Mitchelin PR3's and find them way better than the scorpions orginally fitted.
Smoother ride, better turning in, great grip and are supposed to be ace in the wet. Heard that they will do far more miles than the standard tyres
So far I can't fault them.

Michelin Pilot Power 3's here. Don't know about mileage yet--that's secondary to edge-grip for me anyway. They are very sticky and dry cornering is superb! They are supposed to also be excellent in rain but I haven't been caught in it to know. I have the PP3's on two bikes and just 'scrubbed' them in on my Hyperstrada. :) If mileage is your priority, Michelin Pilot Road 4's should last longer.

I had put the Michelin Pilot Road 3s on my Duke and they were awesome. Rain? What rain? Sadly someone else will get to wear them out. I only put about 1000 miles on 'em and they still looked new when I traded the bike for the HyperStrada. I'll get another set for this bike too.

I had road 3s on my R6, fantastic tire, lasted a 6300 km trip with virtually no flattening in the middle and really great cornering grip, rite now on my strada I have the front stock Pirelli and a road two on the back. Both are getting replaced this year, I'm going to try a Dunlop 616, it's marketed as a wet race tire but the treads are deep and aggressive, the adv guys like to cut them and use them off road.

Mixing tire brands is not a good idea....and I always replace both. There's nothing like the feel of a fresh set...:D

I usually stick with one type of tire but last year my rear tire was showing canvas while the front looked brand new, the front is still not wore out but I'm going to replace both with the D616 to see if I like them.

I've been in contacted with a Pirelli rep via the ducati uk forum (an administrator of the site asked if I was interested in getting a pair of free tyres and doing an evaluation), The rep had seen that I'd fitted the mitchilin road pilots to my Hyperstrada and asked me if i would be interested in evaluating some new Pirelli tyres. I thought it was to true to be real, but after a few emails it looks like a pair of Angel Gt's are coming my way FOC.
All I have to do is post my honest opinion of them for the site and for Pirelli, simple as that. Looks like an excuse to get out and do a tour of Scotland ;-)
I'll keep you guys posted.

That would never happen to me. Cream dream. I recommend buying a couple lottery tickets this week.

I mounted a pair of Pilot Road 4's about 4500km ago, replacing the OEM Scorpions. So far, I am very impressed with the PR4's, both the way they perform and how well they are lasting. They are showing very little wear.

I just returned from a 5 day 2800km road trip through Southern BC, Washington and Idaho, encountering weather ranging from sunny and 90F to serious downpour and 50F. They totally lived up to their great wet weather tire reputation and had great edge grip through some serious twisties on the Rattlesnake Grade in the dry.

I will definitely buy another pair, which will probably be at the end of june after my next road trip!

Ordered a PR2 rear today with 4500 miles on the scorpion. Not done yet but showing wear. Expected more miles. My friend (Tiger 800) has over 10000 on a rear scorpion.

Have a 1000 mile weekend coming up next month (AMA racing at BARBER) so I may change it a little early.

I had the Anget GT's that came stock on my MutliStrada. I liked them a lot and got 6,700 miles out of the rear (the front still had some life). My only "complaint" is that the rear went from looking OK, to showing cords in less than 50 miles. I went to work in the morning, and when I got home, it looked like this:

I replaced them with some new PR4's. Only got about 200 miles on them, but I really like the feel so far. Definitely quicker turn in.

Disclaimer: Hypermotard owner.

I was looking for a pair of tires that offered longer wear than the Diablo Rosso II's that came stock (prob about 4-4.5k until the rear will be done) but recently found them for $210 shipped for the pair. Cant beat the price and the tires stick like glue so I went for them again. Would be a great tire for any strada owners looking for something more sticky (at a killer price point).

I had a similar thing occur on my ST2 with the Angels, loved the way they performed but went from OK to cord showing in about 100km. Did that with 2 sets of tires as a matter of fact! The current PR4's seem to be pretty bullet proof and I'm really liking them.

Installed a new set of Conti trail attack 2's just yesterday. Unbelievable improvement in handling from a tire that is supposedly more 'off road' than the stock Scorpions. It impressed me so much I revised my schedule and took the bike out today for a longer run. I got about 4800 miles out of the Scorpions. Wish I had done it sooner - just $300 made the bike even more fun.

I had a set of the D616's, loved the look and how the rode in the dirt. I got about 5500mi out of the rear and the front was about half life. Last month I went to order a new rear and it wasn't available anywhere, I was told it has been discontinued... Crap, just when I found a tire I liked for this bike.. I ended up throwing on a set of the Conti Trail Attack 2's, only about 1k on them but I really like it so far...
