what tyres are you on?

OMG New Tires!

Just got PR3's shod. Holy Santa Claus Crap what a difference. My Skorpions weren't that flat in the center but I guess I had to really fight to roll the bike onto the sidewall's because now the bike just falls into turns. It was spooky.

As for a review, I'll need some time. I'm not familiar with the area (Norfolk, VA), the roads I do travel are horrible, and I don't want to push it until the new slime is properly scrubbed off. It does hold a line dramatically better and a bit quieter/softer ride on the interstate but, my rear Skorpion was pretty much toast in the center meat.

Side note: the tech adjusted my clutch back to what I guess is factory spec. My clutch was so far out that I had a tuff time in the stop and go with new setting. I'm not saying it was better prior to adjusting, I had just gotten used to it.

I'm liking the PR3's so far, but I did loose the front end twice on the same run, I'd done 100miles hard riding and pushing the bike hard through the corners, I managed to save the bike twice, the 2nd time did give me a wake up call though to slow it down a little, new tarmac uphill tight lefthander, the front slid away and I managed to catch it, but ended up on the otherside of the road near the kirb, was just glad nothing was coming the other way!!!
I'm still trying to figure out whether it was the new smooth tarmac or i'd just gone onto part of the tyre that wasn't scrubbed in yet?? or just maybe too much throttle too soon.

Dude, the front started sliding and you pulled it out? Props, cause my history with putting bikes down learned me that when the front end goes, so do you.

I keep telling myself new rubber is good but I have much less confidence right now. On the Skorpions, I would yank it over, trail brake and yank on the throttle coming out. Had the left side scrubbed to the edge. My first 50 miles on the PR3's and I bet I look like I just learned to ride yesterday. I have zero tarmac on my routes to scrub them in, too.

Installed a new set of Conti trail attack 2's just yesterday. Unbelievable improvement in handling from a tire that is supposedly more 'off road' than the stock Scorpions. It impressed me so much I revised my schedule and took the bike out today for a longer run. I got about 4800 miles out of the Scorpions. Wish I had done it sooner - just $300 made the bike even more fun.

How's the road noise and traction on wet pavement?

PR3's are fabulous! I've never gone to the edge so quickly (front and rear) on a new set of tires. I had to really wrestle the Skorpions all the way over but these have so much positive traction and feedback that it's not difficult at all.

Still haven't drug the center/side stands. At least I don't think I have. I remember that telltale grinding noise from dragging pegs on past bikes.

Jerdog , How are the TKC 80's holding up ? Had some on a GSA 1200 and only got 3000 miles from them . I liked them a lot and want some for the Hyper but worried about the mileage . How many miles on yours now ?

PR4 yes

I have now officially run through a set of PR4's. Got just shy of 6000 miles out of the rear and the front is done at about 9000. Works out well, 3 rears for 2 fronts, and yes I know peeps say to replace both at same time but I'm a cheap ******* and am not going to throw away 3000 miles worth of front! Love the way the tires handle and grip both in the dry and in the wet.

I have almost 1000 miles on them now and they seem to be holding up but I'll be surprised if they last 3000.

Hey! I am running Pilot Road 4s now & have 3k miles on them so far, so I can't say how well they will do on this bike... I had the Road 3s on my 2011 ZX10r & got a little over 10k miles out of them before I got close to the wear bars. I would recommend these tires to anyone b/c of how much of a better feel they provide than the stock ones.

Am I just really lucky or should I be riding a scooter [i.e. I ride way to gentle]??? I have 11k + kilometers on my bike and still have the stock tires. And no, I'm not running them bald or even kinda close to it. I'd say that barring a failure, the rear has at least another 2500 - 3000 in it and the front is still in fantastic shape. By contrast, I used to require a new rear tire on my old supermotard every 3500 KM.

That said, I don't ride highways very often - I'd estimate less than 1000 of my 11000 is highway, and you'd have to look hard to find a long straight road where I live, so perhaps that explains why I don't wear the centers early.

In any case, I'm a huge fan of the stockers and will absolutely replace them with the same.

I would think highway eats them up faster. Lots of constant heat, especially in the center. I'm glad the PR3's are dual-compound, though I'm not riding much hwy either at the moment.

Most of the kms for me, like about 95%, are 2 lane highway with very little freeway. I also ride quite a bit in Northern/Central/Eastern OR and WA states where a lot of the chip seal is pretty sharp volcanic rock that eats tires. Hardly anyone I know gets more than 6000mi/9500km from a rear.
