What's your biggest complaint about the Hyperstrada?

I recently traded my 2008 KTM Duke for a 2013 Hypermotard. I love the new bike. It has the right Italian temperament and rawness but still very stable because of the increased weight and low gravity. The only negative thing so far is the mechanical operated clutch. What's the point of that? It's not a big deal at all, but I still can't find any viable reason to make it mechanical.
 
Clutch aint the best. I find a couple mm's adjusted from stock setting is way more manageable. I recently had some service done and they adjusted clutch back to stock and I couldn't even ride it until I adjusted it back.

Hmmm. Ok. Right now it seems like the "grip point" is very far out, but since I'm the second owner I can't know if the level now is the stock setting. Wich way did you adjust it?
 
Surging throttle. Otherwise it's a perfect motorcycle. Some of the complaints I see here I think are silly. The front forks work fine for me, but I can see how some can complain about the lack of adjustability.

Quite agree. Let's be happy that all these complaints are just minor and some of them are just a preference of taste. Both Hypers are one of the best all-round bikes around, but still offering massive power vs/weight to be raw and playful.

Back at ya with what viable reason do they have for hydralic? I have had 6 bikes so far and none of them were hydralic clutches. In my experience the hydralic clutches are harder to pull than a cable clutch. Most Ducs hurt my hands after a while also the lever travel takes a weirdo path that I swear isn't on a flat plane. The clutch is so easy to pull on this bike its awesome! Yes the feel isn't the best but I haven't had much trouble with it so far (only had the bike for a week). Less stuff to go bad with a cable system too.

My main complaint is the suspension. Yes its fine for lite use and super slab riding but being so cheap its gunna suffer pretty quick when you start going hard. Oh and the low fuel light should come on at half a gallon left or so. It comes on so early its kinda annoying...
 
Still miss
1) gear indicator
2) A proper gastank to fill. One that has 16 litre to use, and not just a open hole to fill the gas in.
3) Suspention is so cheap that it alone make a great inspiring bike bad. (Even a cheap in price bike like Yamaha Mt-9 has better suspension)
 
I really don't see why they can't program a gear indicator in with a full digital display. Sure you need hardware to make that happen but I hate not having one.
 
I never understand why people want gear indicators? I thought it was a second nature for motorcyclists to be aware what gear they are using (like a subconscious counting or something). And when n doubt, look at the speed and revs, work it out (know your bike, djeez).
Oh, my biggest complaint, the flat spot around 4000-4500 rpm.

When I had an inline 4 that had a 15K rpm power band, no problem. An mx'er that has 3K useful, pretty easy. But this twin that sometimes has 1000rpm seperating 2 gears at commuter speeds...little tougher. And what I really want to know my current gear for is so I know how many cogs I can bang it down to get the quickest blast in the sweet spot of the right gear.

Try and tell me you've never been cruising at 90 kmh and thought: "am I in 5th or 6th?", then pulled the clutch looking for 6th gear only to find you are already there.

I guess all those rally and F1 drivers are wrong, too. Sorry, I say give me as much information as possible and let me choose not to whether to use it or not. Why even have a tachometer then?

I like mine so it engages much earlier than stock setting. Gives you more "play" to smooth out first when getting on the roll. I believe it's a couple threads shorter than stock setting. So, twist whichever direction shows less adjuster threads. Hard to explain and I'm away from the bike for a couple days.
 
the gas filler cap

i like the givi tanklock system because of it's quick-release features but i hate that i can't put it on the hs tank because of how the filler cap is designed

i also hate that they didn't put a hinge type gas filler cap. you always have to worry about where to put down the cap every time you fill up
 
Alot of my friends complain about the clutch and throttle. It's just a different feel than what everyone is used to. It took me a few hundred miles to get adjusted and now other "normal" motorcycles feel odd. It's all relativity, because when all motorcycles have electronic throttle, then the old throttle cable will feel odd and unresponsive. On the other hand, most cars have gone to electronic throttle and nobody noticed a thing.. Idk, food for thought I guess.

I do like the new clutch. Ducati didn't use hydraulic clutch on these for a reason, the new clutch the 821 has didn't need it. Hydraulic clutch is beneficial on different clutch with heavier spring rates to handle higher torque outputs, piston size and outlets can be adjusted for easier pull. I think the clutch on the hypermotard is a breakthrough, the lightest slipper clutch i've felt so far. It does have a strange feel to it, I think they modified it on the ducati monster for less experienced riders.

About the clutch control, I just changed the lever for an adjustable one, and since the lever is now closer to the handle, the engagement point is also closer, and it feels less odd to an "old" ducati driver. I like it much better now.

My biggest complaint was the suspension. I did the Andreani fork upgrade and now that issue is mostly resolved. The upgrade made it much better but I think the springs are a little too stiff. Working that out soon.

The next issue is the surging. The throttle response isn't smooth. Can't keep a steady speed at low revs in low gear. The last ECU update made it a bit better, but still wish it were smoother.

Thirdly, I always wonder if my bike will fry its coils, ECU, or ignore the fly by wire throttle someday. I really don't like how that uncertainty feels. It makes me want to sell the bike or trade it in for something else.

LAST: I'm stuck with this bike for a while because new ones are being unloaded by dealers for what I'd like to sell mine for. So I'm gonna take a bath on it if and when I wanna get something different. If the electrical gremlins show up, I really hope they do it under warranty.

With that being said: When I'm not on the bike I want it gone... When I'm riding the bike and the conditions are right, all is right with the world. I'm sure some people say that about the one they love. ;-)
