Advice for buying Hypermotard 950 - SP or Base Model?

Hi Gents,

New to the forum and looking to buy very soon but struggling with what 950 to buy?

Not been able to get a demo of either of the above models and trying to decide what would be best for really bumpy and pot holed roads (not dirt roads but rough with grass in middle)?

Am I right in thinking the SP has had the suspension stiffened up and more track focused as well as having longer suspension?

Will the lightweight wheels on the SP cope with pot holes?

I test rode a 698mono on roads that were close but not as rough as I'll be running and I wouldn't want any stiffer sprung suspension.
 
Good question which I can't answer, but our road conditions generally need softer long-travel suspension, not stiffer. Your comment also takes the shine off any desires I have for the 698!
 
698 was a great little bike if your after a sunny sunday ride that fully engages you. My leg would fall off with all the gear changes but it did confirm that I wanted a hyper.
I test rode it straight after a Desert X which I thought I may want but it was too big and suspension dived too much for my liking but it did make the 698 feel stiff.

I'd be happy to run the 698 suspension on the roads we have just nothing stiffer.
Salesman in garage told me base model would suit as SP was stiffer so i'm just trying to confirm that.
