Looking through the ride reports I reckon I should start posting up some of my part of the world. The missus and I will be doing some touring later this year, pics etc to follow.

Now that Spring is approaching where you are, I can imagine some great rides and pics. Probably not with lions loose in the background, though!

Some years ago we were on a Summer Ride in Yellowstone NP, two-up on our old Velocette. The bison were more than a bit scary...traffic would stop and I did not want to stall the bike as it was not all that easy to kick start!

Okey dokey it's Spring Day today and the summer is coming:D

Off the East coast on Saturday - 450 mile ride just for the hell of it, stay over one night and ride back on Sunday, I will take some pics en-route and start sharing my part of the world with you guys:cool:

Monday morning and a great weekend's riding complete - 900 miles in 36 hours to the North East Coast and back, the bike was fantastic, cruising all day at speeds between 120 and 160 kph, I did fit a "Seat Saint" (Gel version of an airhawk) which really helped with the ache in the butt cheeks.
Over the past 10 years I have done close to 250 000 kilometres around South Africa, and the Hyper certainly lived up to my expectations as well as any other bike I have ever had, including my 900SS, FZ6, DL1000, Tiger 1050 and GS1200

This pic is taken in the middle of the Orange Free State

Winston Churchill captured in Natal during the Boer war - There are literally dozens of Battle Fields in this area, including Blood River and Rorkes Drift.

Trivia point of the day - Liverpool football ground in the UK has a stand called
"The Kop" which is named after the Spion Kop battle field in Natal. It's a really creepy place where you can still find cartridges and bits of ammo boxes lying around in the veld.

Average fuel consumption = 4.1 litres / 100km, average speed for the weekend = 105km/h or 66mph. I personally think that is really good.

I love this bike:cool:

Next major trip on the bike is the Eastern and Western Cape, this will be at the end of October.
In the mean time I will be off to the Kruger National Park this weekend.
Going in the cage, but I will put some pics up anyway.

Some pics from my last visit to the National Park

The lion cub is only 6 weeks old!
They are only good for this up to about 12 weeks, after that they are too big and strong.
My daughter got scratched to bits doing this:rolleyes:

Took a road trip to Mpumalanga over the weekend (in the cage)
The pics below were taken in a road side petrol stop just off one of the major routes to Mozambique.
Note the Rhinos with their horns removed, poaching for the Asian market is a huge problem here, literally hundreds of these magnificent animals are killed every year for their horns, in fact I did read that at the current pace they will be extinct in 20 years time.
These are White Rhinos, which has nothing to do with the colour but actually the shape of the mouth, the Dutch settlers called them "wyd" which means wide, referring to the mouth, the "white" was misunderstood by the English.
Water buffalos are extremely dangerous animals, with a mean attitude.
My wife is 5 foot 3 inches tall, the model she is standing next to gives you an idea of scale.

Great pics! I have heard that ostriches can be pretty feisty, too...and hippos are maybe the worst tempered of all.

My wife's favorite Xmas song is "I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas..."

Hippos kill more people in Africa than all the other animals combined, close up the gape of their mouths is unbelievable, I reckon 5 feet wide, no jokes.
Their teeth can be around 18 inches long. They spend most of their time in the water, and "walk" almost silently on the river beds, on land they can run at about 20mph, imagine a 4000 pound animal with a bad attitude coming at you at that speed!

I hear Hippo's, like aligators, carry a lot of bacteria in their mouths, too.

Pom, I just finished "Long Way Down", the documentary of Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman's adventure ride from Scotland to Capetown. Amazing. If anyone hasn't seen it, highly recommend. Or watch "Long Way Round", first. That was their first adventure ride from London to NY, through all the sketchy parts of eastern block and Russia.
