Hi guys,
i have been facing this issue since yesterday.
1. the CEL light randomly turns on when riding and then again turns off. when i check the errors on the dash, it shows only engine. the CEL light is acting erratic. Any ideas why.
2. there is surge in power with erratic power bursts with min throttle as if bike has got a mind of its own at low speeds
any advise here
Thanks in advance
Mayur

I had the same thing except for the surging and it was the 02 sensors going bad. Then they finally went dead and the engine light stayed on. The fasting thing is getting a ODB Bluescan II and download the Melcodiag software and read your engine errors. The software should tell you what's going bad. I took mine to Ducati first before I did this and they told me it was the servo motor because I unplugged the cable. But it ended up being a waste of money because the servo motor shouldn't throw a CEL. Finally found it was the 02 sensors.

My mechanic still says it's related to the servo delete, even though I have the servo spoofer plug. He said he would need the entire OEM kit back to do some reset with the full servo motor. Also have CEL "ENGINE". Have had it for years and has no noticeable affect on operation.

When you have the CEL on, if you pull the clutch and roll off the throttle do the RPMs stay around 3-4k or surge around that mark? If so, the bike is in limp mode which means the ECU got bad readings from a sensor and cut power for safety reasons. The intermittent thing is weird, CEL usually stays on after a fault but will clear after a decent amount of time has passed if not additional fault is detected. Code remains stored however.

Now i can see the CEL light on permanently. i am anticipating a faulty O2 sensor throwing tantrums. My bigger worries were when returning from work with friend pillion, it happened a couple of times that the bike would erratically send out a burst of power that too in slow traffic sending scares in me.

there is also one more thing im noticing., there is a lot of misfiring as if i was running an after market exhaust while the bike is still running stock exhaust. i dont notice it when i am riding with earplugs. but very evident without it. I am wondering that could this be from the exhaust flapper that is causing the back pressure by not opening in time when rolling of the throttle. from what is have seen on youtube, the flapper valve closes at higher RPMs and opens below certain RPM. would removing the cable in the valve keeping the servo in place affect the engine.

i am avoiding any long ride because of these random issues coming.

Moto, your misfire and backfire are probably related and probably to do with something that is affecting proper sampling to create good AFR. Good luck and hope it is the O2.

Pulling the cable off the flapper will spring it to open (deleted, basically). It's pretty simple to reconnect. Very extensive servo threads on here so just search those.
