chain adjustment

did anyone adjusted their chain yourself yet? the manual says to go to ducati, what i think is ridicules. after 3000km i'm at max play acc. to spec now, so i need to start thinking about this now.

Very simple and easy. You do need a spanner to fit the adjustment teeth. Loosen the two pinch bolts and turn clockwise IIRC. Check adjustment (60mm) and then torque the pinch bolts.

Chain stretches pretty early, before 600 mile service for me. I adjusted before taking it in, and it has not needed anymore changes.

ok, were did you get the spanner? did you use a torque wrench to tighten the two pinch bolts?

For the uninitiated - pictures would be good

I have the motion pro shock adjuster, but this one looks like it would work also and cheaper.

If you look at the motion pro picture, I use the big end on that tool, little one is too small.

BikeMaster Shock Spanner Wrench | MotoSport

No service manual available. The Multi12 torque is 35nm for the pinch bolts m12.

I've been using a sink drain spanner for my adjustments. works pretty good and it's cheap. Tons of videos on youtube about chain adjustment on the ducks.

It's pretty straight forward on adjusting the chain. If you look at the rear of the hub you will see two socket head pinch bolts. Just loosen then with an allen wrench. Then take the spanner wrench and rotate the spindle. If you look between the sprocket and wheel you will see the slots where the spanner wrench engages. I have a wrench from my 06 S2R Monster with the single sided swing-arm.

NOTE: when adjusting chain, be sure to have weight on the bike when fine tuning... doing so without weight will cause the chain to be tight when you sit on it (esp if you and a rider do) and can cause bad bad problems ;)

Had to buy a spanner at shop this weekend. Kinda surprised tool kit didn't include one. Think even my old R6 had a spanner in the kit.

Anyone care to shed more light on wether weight should be on or off the swingarm? I watched a couple high quality Duck chain adjustment vid's and they were performed weight off.

I check mine on sidestand, no weight. Wouldn't hurt to double check it with rider on bike, for sure it should not get tight at any point!

SuperTen have you got any image or link of the motion pro shock adjuster?

I had a Honda CB1000R three years ago and it came with the spanner in the toolkit. Don't know why the ducati doesn't include it.

The hook spanner I bought rite from ducati it was fairly cheap although I think there is a handle you need to buy with it. I'll just rig something up

Adjusted my chain whilst i was home this time, needed approx 10mm taking out.
Was an easy job, I put the bike on the center stand and turned the back wheel to find the tightest spot and marked the link. Then put the bike on the side stand with the chain in the tightest position. Then loosened the two pinch bolts, adjusted the cam with a spanner from my 996, clockwise little at a time until i got the correct measurement, tightened up the two pinch bolts. job done.
Very easy and took 5 mins to do.:)

Adjustment instructions are on a sticker on your swingarm. Or, in my case in my owners manual. I took off all my stickers and stuck them in my owners manual.

Just did mine too. Why has nobody mentioned the way Duc used a division sign instead of hyphen for spec tolerance? Drives me nuts as I second guess what they meant everytime I adjust something on this bike.

Wheel removal

My OEM Scorpion is pretty well done after 6700km. A couple of questions:

1) Wheel removal, the owners manual is useless...is it as simple as it looks? Remove slip-on, remove the retaining clip, remove nut, slip off wheel.

2) What have you guys been usung for second set of tires? I come from the ST world where I have been running BT 023's, Angels, and RoadSmarts the last few seasons and think any of these would be fine on the HS.
