Are you sure that you that it couldn't have happened on the road? I stared at my bike so much the first 2 months I had it (especially the rear wheel) that a huge flaw like that wouldn't have escaped my attention. In the US, I could see a dealer fighting tooth and nail that it was just a consequence of taking rocks on the road, not a manufacturers flaw.

Worst case, I don't think that would be terribly expensive to fill and paint and, if done right, nobody but you would ever notice. And it's always good to get the big scratch or dent out of the way early on a new toy.

$20K! Ouch. That's a Diavel or Panigale in the States.

Good luck.

Yep, you guys are lucky. You get your toys for cheap. After conversion, i got my hyperstrada the equivalent of $ 19,000 ++ . Registration and insurance not included yet

From my point its looks like something hit your rim!

But if your Dealer change the rim everything is back to normal and don't forget no matter what you pay ITS AN ITALIEN BIKE :p

Gruss Steffen

Well ....the dealer is closed for 2 weeks for the festival season. If i had hit something will be visible scratch around that area.....its defitnely a flaky powder coating. Guess I have to wait for their reply after this. Pray hard I will get a replacement.....if not am gonna live with this. Wtf man.....

It'll be a stone chip, I have one too and have painted over it.....can't be helped if you actually use your bike!

same chip

I have same chip, small on the back rim, same place. Maybe it is a vulnerable spot. Over 3000 mi now, I noticed it after I got it back from dealer two weeks ago. Not sure exactly when it happened

Dude, if you get it warrantied and get to keep the damaged one...i would be so jealous

+1 I'd love to have a second set of rims for this bike, one for the pilot road 3 and another for a semi off road option.

Harley sells high quality touchup paint; look for "Vivid Black." Brush in cap, etc. I nicked my front wheel changing tires and it matches perfectly. Seems to stick at least as well as the original paint, but that's not saying much.

Pretty similar here in Bangkok. Paid US$21K (on the road) for my Hyperstrada, with a a few goodies added

Some guys don't know how good they've got it!

That can't be just currency ratios. Is it supply/demand, tacking on premiums for premium labels? Sorry for the economics lesson, but it would make me sick knowing I paid that much over MSRP.

Hi gatdammit. You are correct, it's not just currency exchanges. The Hyperstrada, like nearly the complete Ducati range (for Asia and some other designations) is manufactured here in Thailand (except for the engine). So I am buying the native currency.

Taxes and Duties are very high here in Thailand (as in may other Asia Countries), so 'luxury' items cost much more than in the West. Cars manufactured in Thailand (Thailand is the 8th largest car maker in the world) are very expensive. My car cost $50k (its a Mitsubishi!), my last car cost $85K (a Volvo, but that was 10 years ago), both made in Thailand. Cars manufactured overseas, with an engine larger than 3.0L have 330% import duty!

These are facts that people (foreigners and nationals), have to deal with, when living in some Countries.

These are the market prices, you pay, or you don't buy. Simple as that! There are waiting lists, people are ready to buy. Discounts are not given, due to waiting lists.

Like I said, in West, people do not understand how cheap things really are.

An interesting point, is that re-sale values do not depreciate so much. So... it's not all bad news I guess. A friend of mine just bought a second-hand (1 yr old) Monster 795 (Thai version of the 796), and paid $13K. He's happy with that price (it had quite a few extra's and very close to new basic price).

Anyway, we pay what we have to pay for our toys, that's why many of the posters here own multiple bikes. Here, I can afford just the one!

Very interesting. We do benefit from a lot of territory and an insatiable consumer market. Thanks for the quick lesson.

Just curious what the premium motorcycle theft rate is like? If high, I imagine your insurance rates aren't a great deal either.

Bike and Car theft in Thailand, is, I believe, much much lower than in the West. However, I do not have any figures to support that.

Insurance, I pay $625 for First Class insurance (which means I must foot the first $400 of any claim!). There is no discount next year for a claim-free history. I expect my insurance will go up by approx 8% next year, if I make no claims, although the valuation of my bike will go down to about 60% of replacement cost.
