My 2014 821 Hypermotard cuts out at constant throttle. It seems like its losing fuel momentarily then goes again.
Can't decide if its electrical or fuel or both. It just dies and then starts again. Its very disconcerting.
Anyone have an issue like this? Any solutions?

In any gear? All gears? Different DTC settings? Does the dash lose power when it happens?

Seems to be any gear. Haven't tried different DTC settings. The dash does go dark. It is now dying completely and I coast to the side of the road. I cycle the ignition switch and it fires right back up. Then is good for 20 minutes and same thing again. I had to call off a ride with my son and have parked it now.
Very frustrating

Well, the dash blanking out is probably a better scenario than other problems. I'd check the grounding wire. Few members have had issues with a bad ground. Check all the fuse box leads and fuses. I had a power cycling issue related to bad connection at the #4 in forward fuse box. It would blow the fuse and turn the bike into a brick until I replaced the fuse.

I took my motard for a 400km ride, i an official visit to a site. On the way i had major setbacks when riding. Typically whenever i would roll off the throttle, the bike would stall. Couple of times the dash would blackout with “M.A.E” coming up on the display! The bike would then start again normally however the when i would halt the bike, dash would not show odometer, instead “- - - - - -“

It also went randomly into limp mode with only one cylinder firing twice. I then have to switch of the bike and restart it. It would start with both cylinders firing, but the dash would not show odometer, instead “- - - - - -“. Infact the dash has only shown this in the whole ride and the nearest Ducati service was 200km away to show them. Somehow managed to complete the official trip and return home safe.

This would happen whenever i would close the the throttle suddenly in situations like speed-bumps, or needed to lower the revs suddenly. It would also be affected when i ran over some rough patches on road! I had to always ensure the engine was always revving above 3500rpm or below 2000 for traffic conditions.

I got so frustrated riding this way that i kept cursing myself as to why i took the bike and not drive

"M.A.E" is a first for me. Try searching ducati.ms
Would definitely consider getting it scanned by an authorized tech.

I’d check battery connections if they are tight. Also check for loose connections behind the dashboard.

Damn if I didn't just get "M.A.E." screen today. Check my new thread coming soon...

I noticed that "M.A.E." and the firmware version appeared on my dashboard once I was updating a new map with T800. It was some sort of rebooting...

M.A.E. must be MAE Elettronica srl.

Sounds like a hard reboot of the dash electronics. Or maybe the entire bike, given that it stalls.

Interesting that it seems to be starting from scratch (i.e. factory-new settings) rather than picking up the information in the on-board memory.

I fixed my electrical issue and was pleased to find that my ECU didn't get scrambled after multiple "M.A.E" events. Saved my service mileage tracker and even my gear indicator kept it's reference library.

Could have been the starter post was wonky. It was oddly wobbly when I ran the new lead so I re-seated that. However, I think I just had a poor connection at the battery. The new wire kit is heavy gauge, very stiff and it was really struggling to make the bend to terminal posts. Next day they had some new memory and I squirted a bunch of di-electric grease on them. Fired right up.

OP here.
I fixed my cutting out issue by running a new additional ground wire from the battery neg terminal to the frame to the engine. All better for a couple months now.

Hi Ducamok, did it sort the cutting out completely / as my RVE does it exactly the same as you describe
