Looking at the technical spec sheet for the new 2024 Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono, both the Standard and RVE model trims comes with a Lithium-Ion battery installed.

And from the photo, it appears Ducati has chosen Skyrich powersport line of Lithium-Ion batteries:

The DesertX has a Lithium-ion battery as standard too.

Perhaps Ducati are moving that way for all.

It saves a few grams, but means you can't use a standard charger.

And it might burst into flames! Probably not, I guess, unless the wrong charger is used, but is it worth the risk?
I have to admit we've recentlt bought a modern EV car and don't worry about the lithium batteries in that. It's good fun too, with very snappy acceleration from rest. I've not tried an electric bike yet, though a Ducati Monster arch-enthusiast friend has become very keen on his Zero, shock-horror!

I'm holding out for the Ducati V21L Moto-E reaching the streets. :)

I test drove a LiveWire this past summer for kicks, just to compare. The 'get-up and go' torque was... impressive, but once that novelty wore off, it just felt like a really big (and expensive) E-bike. Also, I like shifting gears!!!

I'm very conflicted too because, though ICE motors and gears are part of my soul (if I have one), the serene feeling of gearless E-power in our little car is delightful and allows me to concentrate fully on road conditions and scenery without needing to deal with the mechanicals. Come the Spring and cleaner road conditions, I'll visit the very local electric bike specialist and try something suited to my temperament. Mega power not a priority!

FWIW, my 2018 KTM EXC-F 500 came with a lithium battery, and it's been fine since despite storage in temps that don't exist in Old Blighty. All the chargers I've seen in recent years have a 12V lithium setting.
