I ordered a new Hyperstrada back in January after reading about it elsewhere.

Today I saw my first one 'in the flesh'. First impression was how petite it looked, how very compact. Second impression, after a good walk around - the fine detail of the bike, from the contrast stitching on the seat to the levers. Paintwork appeared flawless.

Then I sat on it. Omigod! I'm about 5'9" and-a-bit, say 177cm. I truly felt as if I was sitting on my nut sack (scrotum for those who prefer), scrunched-up tight against the very front of the seat/ rear of the tank.

There is no way in the world I could be comfortable on this, let alone for extended touring. I have read here other comments about a tight seating position, some feeling they are almost sitting on the tank: my quick sit-down confirmed this. A demo ride might convince me otherwise, but I'm so unsure that I'm not even going to bother with that. Got my $500 deposit back from the dealer with no issues. He has had stock in for about six weeks - very honestly he told me he hasn't yet sold one, which was great surprise. BTW, the bike I looked at - his demo - had a badly bent gear lever, result of a demo-ride by an over-enthusiastic boy-racer! Not a good look...

Sorry. It looks lovely, and a Ducati in my garage would be a delight, other things being equal - but sadly they are not.

But I do wish everyone who owns one the best

I think you should take it for a spin. The seated position is much different than supporting at rest. I have plenty of room to move up and down the already noted very comfortable seat. When I'm cruising, I've noticed I instinctively slouch back in the seat a bit and suck up to the tank for cornering/low speed work.

Honestly, I don't know what the nut crunch issue is. I'm 5'8" and haven't even crushed the pods throwing a leg over. I can't say I've had my boys on the table for comparison with my friends, but I'd say they are of average sag. I suggest tighter underwear and more frequent exercise of the glands to keep them well squeezed.

I lol'd.

I am fortunately 6'3 and look like a bear humping a football on most bikes, I find the HS fits me well.

The seating position and how it effects a rider clearly depends on more than just height. I'm 6 feet on the button and I find my Hyper to be completely comfortable. I love the slightly aggressive posture [i.e. just a *tiny* bit of weight on the hands as a result of the slightly forward oriented position] and I think the seat and ergos associated with it are fantastic. I've put in two 7+ hour days - as in 7+ hours in the saddle - on mine and after having a beer at the end, I mentioned both times that I could have easily put in another two or three hours on the bike.

But, the point is that's just me. I can definitely see how it's not for everyone. My friend, who's in the market for a new bike, tried mine out and I was waiting for him to hop off with a big grin....not so much. He didn't want to say so, but I wormed it out of him: he really didn't care for it. He found it to be too upright, as opposed to laid back which he's used to, too snappy [engine], and too "twitchy" [steering] - which is everything that I love about it :)

Another way of saying it is I tried a Monster last month, and I flatly hated it. Everyone that I mention that to practically collapses from shock because so many people love that bike, but it really didn't do it for me at all. So to each his/her own, I guess :)

I'm 5' 11" and 32" IS, I find that my choice of riding pants makes a difference, also the underwear. Surprising I am getting along pretty well with this bike. The motor and the lightweight of the bike do it for me, so I can put up with some slight discomfort.

2857 miles so far.

The seating position is definitely "different". I got off a Monster S2R800 and the Hyper felt like a trail bike. But in reality once you get over the culture shock the upright position is actually more comfortable and better on the ageing back.

The seat is also quite soft and there are no pressure points to speak of.

What is a slight problem for me is that the seat kind of wedges you down in the saddle, you are stuck between the tank and the back of the saddle. There is little front/back movement. I find it hard to relax and am always using my legs to clamp against the tank and push back into the seat. It causes a ache in the legs after a while. Maybe it is just a case of getting used to the position ?

So far my longest run is 420km.

I'd recommend riding it but we can't change you're mind if its set, so far I have 6282 kms on the bike and my longest day is over 800 kms, I'm 6'0" 34" IS and have a 25 year old back

I had the Monster S2R 800 too. I liked it but the Hyper feels much better to me. I grew up on offroad bikes so I am a bit biased to the Hyper's upright and light feel. I raised the bars on the Monster to take some weight off the wrists which helped the back a bit too.

I am about 5'7" have the low version with the low seat option, but have put the standard seat back on as it is more comfortable, just need to exercise the tippee -toes a bit more.
I had a similar fear when I sat on the bike first up, but haveing done 600+ks absolutley no problems with nether-regions and much more comfortable than the 659 Monster it shares the garage with.
I do describe it as a chook chaser on steroids and absolutley I love it, just cant wait to get it fully broken in.
