Gear indicator

Good luck, hopefully its the new version and will register the gears first time. I have mine but the bike is at the dealers for warranty work. Keep us posted.

I just installed the Healtech Brake light pro today and it was fairly simple just took some time to find the spacing on the taillight wiring.

The GIPro DS is all good. It learnt the gears first ride and is working like a treat since.

GIP.jpg Here is a picture showing the location.

I routed the cabel along the right side, generally following the ABS lines and with the extension of the power cable, ran that out to the rear power socket and soldered it to the power terminal; the ECU plug cable trained up under the seat and crossed over to the left side under the removable cross member to meet to the ECU diagnostic plug, replaced a few cable ties to group all the wires (I also have a couple of extra cables running the same route to two USB ports for phone and camera charging) and you would never guess it is a DIY fitment.

Nice!

He should be along in an hour or so, 6 A.M. there now.

Nicely done.
You don't suppose have more pic on how and where you installed / routed the cable?

Is that the red or Yellow one you got?

i=The Red one for a red Strada. I will take a few pics and add a few more notations.

Nice one there.

Pedro, you extended the power cable because you wanna the installation to be neater? or the cable came werent long enough at all?

I was thinking that the installation should be plug and play and there shouldnt be additional work to make it work

Here we go.
I started by removing the seat and locating the 4 pin diagnostic plug, seen here tucked away beneath the left battery terminal. PPlug End.jpg

Connecting the GIPro to this plug, I then trailed the cable forward to the cross-member and ran it across under the cross-member from the left to right sides. crossmember.jpg

You can see the cable running up against the inside of the left rear sub-frame. I removed the cross-member, run the cable under it and fed the readout unit through whatever space I could find between the fuel tank and the rear sub-frame, from memory I had to have it do a 90 degree turn half way down to fit through the space. this brought it out at the junction of the frame and the right rear sub-frame. I then replaced the cross-member.

right side.jpg From here I trailed the main cable along with the ABS lines and loom, having removed the black plastic triangle part to gain access; the cable should be visible in the photo (I fitted the cable ties last thing so I could get all the lengths right). Behind the black triangle is where I joined in an extension to the power wire so I could run it back to the under-seat power outlet. HealTech recommend connection to a wire behind the fuse box which might be fine on a Monster or other models, but the under-seat power outlet of the Strada is very accessible and switched through the ignition, but the wire of the GIPro is a bit short.

power.jpg You should be able to spot the wire (which I covered with a length of heatshrink tubing) exiting the rubber boot at the back of the outlet in parallel with the original loom wires. To access the terminal, I removed the plug and rubber boot (a two terminal white plastic plug under the boot). I unbolted the suspension canister which freed the loom wire and assisted access to the plug. I then removed the power terminal from the plug and soldered the power wire to it; reassembled the plug, plugged it into the outlet and trailed the new wire and the loom wires together and reassembled the suspension canister. From here that power wire followed the other cable of the GIPro forward.
I loosened the fuel tank side cover on the right hand side to create enough space to wriggle the readout unit through to run it up where the various wires and cables head up from the frame to the controls and instruments.

You can see in this photo that I included the cable into the existing rubber cable tidy tie behind the right fork. From here it runs up to instrument panel where it is stuck in place with the supplied tape.

Then it was just a matter of testing and teaching it the gears.

I hope this is of some assistance

Good morning!

I received the GiPro yesterday and I ´m going to try connect it how you says but i have some questions:

The positive (short wire) go to rear part of bike, exactly, ¿Where is the connection? ¿Position 1 of fuse box (key-sense)?

Sorry foy my english ;)

Thanks

Pedro, what are the limits of this system? Will it lose it's place on the gearbox if you don't go sequentially up and down everytime? I'm wondering what happens if you hit a false neutral between say 4th & 5th; or slip into neutral from 2nd; or stall the bike at speed?

These are all good questions. So far I have had one occasion where the indicator said 1st but I think it was in 3rd. I was stationary, having just pulled over to the side of the road. I have no idea what I did to trick it (or it did to trick me).
I am about to head off for a 4 day 2,000km tour so I will report in on on the performance of the item on my return.

I added length to the short wire and connected it to the power outlet, the one above the rear mudguard. If you look carefully at the photos you should see the wire coming out the rubber cover on the back of the outlet.

Yes, I undestand you, but i need to know where i have connect it to get 12V (red wire), fuse box, what signal?

It would be cool if they added a reset button, so you could just zap it to 1st when stopped. Does it just monitor the shifter or actually hook in to diagnostics?

You can easily reset the unit, it's in the installation / owner instructions. Dont have them to hand but it involves truning the ignition on/off a couple times within a defined time period.

left side install

Installed mine today, no issues and setup perfectly. For install, I ran mine down the left hand side of the bike (taking off all the side panels, connecting the red wire to the switched power lead on the front accessory socket (therefore avoiding increasing the wire length) and then feeding the socket up under the rear side panel so it comes out underneath the ECU plug, ready for plug and play. Tried to take photos after install before I put the panels back on but you can't see anything apart form the indicator on the dash and the socket plugged in so they were next to useless.
I'm tickled pink as they say.

Well done using the front accessory socket.
I have just returned from a 2,400km run and the unit performed without fault.
For those interested, there is a lag of about half a second between shifts and you get a -- when you pull the clutch regardless of the gear you are in or which direction you are changing.
I'm really pleased with the item.
