I got around to fitting a Healtech GIPRO gear indicator today, model no. GPDT-DO1, on my 2013 821 'Strada. I have one on my 2000 Duke ST4 to which I had to fit a proximity detector to count the rear wheel rotations, but was delighted to find the versions for later bikes like the 'Strada work off the diagnostic socket for the ECU, with no other connections needed. Very easy installation!

With the ST4, being a steamlined sports-tourer, it's helpful to have a gear indicator to make sure I'm not cruising in fifth rather than the virtual-overdrive sixth. The situation is rather different with the Strada. That 'little' 821 engine has so much punch in sixth gear that it always feels like I should go for a change up, so I can save myself that embarrassment with the GIPRO feed-back to confirm what gear I'm in. Despite the remarkable top-gear performance, I'll also know to drop a cog when I go for a quick overtake.

What a remarkable bike the 821 is: I love it!

It's my most prized mod. I think selling any performance bike without a GI is criminal. And let me just crush any of those certain "just remember yer gear, bra". This cog box is relatively close ratio (more so with sprocket changes) and, being a pilot, never limit the amount of info I can have. Some of us develop that Shangri-La launch - for me, was 1st gear @ 6K rpm. Clutch in, bang down from 2nd, fist full of throttle, dump the clutch, little wheel spin and walk the front. Total hoon move but made me smile. 2nd gear at 30 mph is my slingshot mode. 3rd is anything aggressive on the highway below 80 mph.

So all these require knowing what gear you're in right now. The GI lags a bit so knowing where you're at right now is crucial. Putting throw the forest on a thumper, not a serious concern. Timing that overtake on a congested 2-lane highway, very serious.

Thanks for posting the pic, Tim. Mine is very similar, is mounted in the same place on the left of the display and the digits are in a tasteful green. I thought I might have to lift the tank to get the cable from back to front, but there was plenty of room to hook it through with a length of bent wire.

Gatd: you have the Healtech GI. Have you tried adjusting the sensing duration to get a quicker response for fast gearchanges? I didn't realise that the GIPROs have got a lot more technical since I put one on the ST4 years ago.

A couple of days ago I filtered to the front of a big traffic queue with the clutch in, knocked it down to what I was sure was first, then tried to launch.
It was in 3rd.
Launch it didn't.
I need one of these.

Gear indicator and quickshifter will be on every bike I own going forward. It's just like Gat said but with the QS as well. People often say that they can shift super fast so they don't need it or it's not as involved or connected to the bike but I have to tell you, if you haven't messed with one it's next level stuff. QS and gear indicator from now on, even if I move back to a supermoto.

A QS saves you from upsetting a line by pulling the clutch and jolting the balance in a lean. I'm struggling to get mine right. Just received diag kit and booster plug. Still heading to the shop soon.

The booster plug pretty much solved my sputtering issue. I have the Cordona stand alone QS on its way. I'll be pulling the RB QS. Might even pull the whole RB tuner and install the Powercommander along with auto tune module. I havnt decided yet. The booster plug along with RB Evo seems to have solved all the fueling issue. I don't get a CEL anymore for lean condition on bank 1 either now.

Just installed the booster plug. It started...that's as far as I've gotten. Trying to unlock the Melcodiag at the same time. Weather is **** so probably a couple days before I can ride. Really want to see what codes are hiding in the ECU, too. I still have "---------" for mileage, though the service interval counter is still working.
