I found this forum while doing research for my next bike. Looks like a solid forum (I've been in forums for many of the bikes I've owned in the past) with plenty of smart, social and friendly folks here. Glad to be here.

The Multistrada was actually my first choice, I like the 2015 improvements, but alas, the HS is a bit more in my price range as it is several thousands cheaper. And it has most of the features I'm looking for.

My last bike was a 2007 Aprilia Tuono 1000, a FUN bike but a little high-strung for my tastes. I'm getting a little older (just passed the 50 mark) and I'm slowing down to actually "smell the roses" instead of blowing by them at warp speed and shredding them. I've had an FZ1000 recently, several sport bikes and sport tourers. This would be my first Ducati.

just check on the insurance first. otherwise I love the bike. I just turned 43 and am coming off of a street triple.

Welcome aboard mate! I think you'll like the Hyperstrada a lot. I test rode it against the Monster and the Multistrada and the Hyper was just so much more fun!! I never had a Ducati (never been a fan of V-Twins) before but the 821 engine in these things is a work of art.

Thanks to both of you for the warm welcome. I will check on the insurance but it shouldn't be too bad for a man my age, plus my driving record is spotless so that will help. And as far as the motor, yes, Jokeshopbeard, everything I've read says that motor is awesome. I don't feel the need for a liter bike anymore, this twin should have enough torque. What I do like about this bike is its apparent agility and low weight.

Not sure a bike with the name "Hyper" is best for you :D

How about the new FJ09?

Age is no barrier with the HS. I will be turning 60 in June and I've had few bikes over the last 45 odd years of riding, and the Hyper is the most fun. This is also my first Ducati. Cheers and happy riding.

It sounds like OP wants to settle down a bit and relax. I don't know about you but I never feel like relaxing on mine!

That's funny. Actually, I looked very closely at the FJ09 for a long time. Functionally, it offers quite a bit.

But if I'm going to make four years of payments on the thing, she better make my heart rate go up when I look at her. All four years. That FJ09 is, well, a bit homely, IMHO. And parked next to the Duc, it loses that beauty contest hands down. Their prices are very close to each other though.

And when I say I'm ready to relax a little...relax is a relative term.

I'm 6'2" or so and am wondering how taller riders have found the comfort level to be for longer trips (250+ miles). Any six foot plus riders want to comment?

Thanks for the words of encouragement 821torque2go...Nice photo too. Have you tried the taller touring windscreen, and if so, did it help?

You are really out in the wind on the bike. I am 6'0 and installed the Ducati touring windscreen on mine. It helped a little but made buffeting worse. It's not great for very tall riders. I now ride without any windscreen.

I understand where you're coming from. The FJ isn't bad looking, but the Hyper makes you tingle in ways you didn't know possible. The downside as I mentioned is you can never ignore that tingle and just relax (at least I can't). Riding it is super exciting, but can be a little tiring.

Ducati is currently doing some sort of demo ride tour. They are going to be here in CA next week, offering the 'strada and 'motard for test rides. You should definitely see if you can ride one.

@Bsucardinalfan...wow! State Farm full coverage on my 2015 Hyper is $410/year. Stand alone policy, as my car, the wife's, and two daughter's cars are with Wawanesa, who no longer offers MC coverage.

My insurance for the '13 Hyper is nowhere near what you guys are paying. $220 annually through State Farm. I have all my other insurance through them so everything is heavily discounted. For reference, my '98 GSX 650F was $185.

Well everyone surely is talking about different levels of insurance. Liability only, full coverage, etc.

I think I pay around $500 or $600/yr for full coverage.

Kuksul08 ~ I think you hit the nail on the head with full coverage vs liability only.

Thanks so much for your insight on this. Kinda reminds me of my Tuono. That thing WAS hyper. It made me want to wring the #*$& out of it all the time. Nearly every time I got home after riding it I was tempted to have the thing put down, for its own good and mine.

There's a local Ducati dealer I'm on good terms with, they'd let me take one for a test ride. From what I've been reading, I may have to reconsider the HS and go with my original plan for the MS, simply because I'm a pretty big guy and need a bigger bike. I'm finding used 2013 Multi's for around 12K. My wife has her own bike so I don't need to plan for a pillion but my long legs and wide shoulders may dictate the MS.

And thank you guys for the insurance info, seems pretty varied. Haven't checked yet but the rates I've been getting with Foremost have been pretty agreeable so far on our previous bikes.

At 6'5 and nearly 18 stone or 250lbs most would say i'm too big for the hyper but I don't feel i am, wind isn't really a problem unless you are doing 100+ and the ergonomics are great.

But as people have said the hyper is a bike that makes you want to wring its neck everywhere, i found that the multi despite having 50 more bhp was a much more sedate ride.

True that, although I've always found that with ~1200cc V-Twins - a real lazy feel to the power delivery. Which is why I've always avoided them.

The 821 though, although still a V-Twin, doesn't spin up like one I've ever ridden before. Even more so since I had all the latest software applied this weekend at the dealer. She's a hooligan alright - just the way I like it!!

I haven't tried or even thought about a taller screen. I wouldn't mind getting one of those little carbon screens, for city and weekend rides, but not at $240au or more. I'll just keep looking until I can find a cheaper one that I like. I just did 2400Ks a couple of weeks ago and the standard screen work a treat. I am only about 5' 7". Cheers
