Hi guys

I'm a bit stumped on this one. I recently purchased red Hypermotard tail plastics to replace the passenger grab rails on my 2013 Hyperstrada 821.

I can fit the plastics to the adjoining metal centre piece that fixes to the bike however without the grab rails there are no nuts to screw it back onto the bike - See attached.

I have looked on the Ducati parts catalogue but there don't seem to be any replacement nuts from the Hypermotard I can find.

Can anyone shed some light on this or has anyone done this before? Would anyone know what bolts I need to be able to fix them to the bike?

Many thanks in advance for your help!

John

After looking online I think I need the "holder" piece (48311741A) from the Hypermotard that has the nuts built in. The holder from the Hyperstrada can't attach to the bike without the grab rails as the grab rails contain the nuts.
Again if someone has done this before any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Johnny,

I do know there have been a couple Motard conversions discussed on this sight. I do know the luggage system makes the HS tail very different than Motard. There's at least one fairly detailed conversion thread on here. Have you tried the ***.ms site?

If your just missing the molded in nuts (giggity), could you maybe epoxy or weld some in place?

Cheers

Here is a picture of the tail from a 2013 SP. It does have the bolts built in. I went the opposite on my HyperMotard SP. I installed the grab handles so I have a stable place to lash my tail bag with plug kit/pump/etc.

I've managed this conversion without buying any other components. Can't remember the details but I'll check it out tomorrow. As regards lashing luggage in place, I had a feeling my standard 2013 HS has the fold-out hooks underneath, just like the DP seat on my ST4.
More tomorrow...

Thanks for the replies everyone. Let me know if you find anything useful @nickwst4

Cheers again everyone

Hi mate what's the .ms site? Cheers

Hi Johny,

I'm not going to be as much help as you'd like because I really don't want to dismantle my bike to find out!

I do recall the change from HS to HM rear end as being very easy, changing to CF side pieces in the process. Obviously you need access to bolts to fit, but I keep a big stock of stainless fasteners. I have only the OEM luggage bracket and bolts left over as shown. Oddly, I have an identical tail section and number-plate holder in stock, so maybe I thought I needed to buy a spare. There are plenty available from people who prefer bits of bent alloy to 'tidy' the tail! Whatever, those spare bits are identical to the parts still on the bike. As I mentioned, the OEM seat does have straps underneath that can be folded out to provide attachments for bags strapped to the pillion seat. These are webbing, rather than steel as on my DP ST4 seat.

I've just been digging in my store because there must have been more bits I took off my HS, such as the grab-handles etc. It turns out I bought the genuine Ducati Performance 'carbon half-tail kit', 96989951A, which has plenty of diagrams and probably included some fixings too. Oh, and Hypermotard decals which were surplus to requirements! Whatever, the conversion was very straightforward.

Hey guys.

I just did this change today. When I looked out for a bike, I pretend to buy a HM and install the bag support. But I found a HS and it is extremelly more easy to change the HS on HM.

I bought the red fair tails and install it with the original part from the tail grab support. Just used new nuts, two screws for fairings and a double faced tape.

The fairings have another point for screws, but in this cenario I have to hold the nuts to screw up. So, I can not screw this two under the fairings. I did the installation with tapes and just screw this two in front of the fairings.

(Sorry about the explanation, I am still having a little dificult with english)

Well done! I used CF tail pieces and it was a pretty easy mod and makes the tail look much more sexy compared with all the hardware that was on it before that I wasn't intending to use. The other aspects of the 'Strada suit me better than a 'Motard would, I'm pretty sure.

Hey guys. Today I finish the replacement. The tail fairings was a little loose, so I used this kind of plug (this one is from Honda XRE300) used to hold the fairings, and plug it on the hole under the support. DD9E6839-224C-49E0-A2AC-CDD0CA22AC1C.jpeg

This is the hole (between the nuts) in the support that reach the hole on fairing.

I had to enlarge the holes with a 6mm drill and it fit perfectly. Now I do not have to use two faced tapes anymore and the fairings are very tights.

Oh yeah, right! Almost forgot. I also have to change these nuts because they are too tall and were pulling the fairings up, causing a little bend on it. So I used nuts without the rubber and a Loktite to hold it against vibration. The screws are exactly longer as the nuts.
