Limp home recall

That sounds like a giant ****-sandwich to have to chew on.

I also just got the notice and have the heated grips. Did they at least offer to buy back the heated grips which would now be useless?

Why do we buy these little princess bikes?! A comparable Japanese bike would be so much less of a headache...

Hahaha :D because they're beautiful and amazing to ride in their element.

YOU have a princess. I have a black ***** and I have to hone out her cylinders every now and then, if you know what I mean. I treat her right, she treats me right.

Okay, I'm getting excited.

My problem with the bike is it's been raining here everyday for like the past 3 months! Sucks! :(

They reassembled my heated grip with original parts and all is well. I'm just gonna stick with it as i haven't had any issues with it.

HUUWHAAATTT?

We have 1 engine failure (which is probably just a sensor issue) on the boards; maybe a dozen with the limp mode issue (which clears with a quick reboot); half that in disco mode (again, stray trons); couple dozen squeaky breaks (most likely stuck bobbins); sticky bag locks (solved with lube).

All of these trending issues were solved by Ducati via warranty service. Now they issue a recall for a known faulty part. What did GM do about those bad ignition units...oh, right. People died because they gambled with a recall. Judge a maker by his reluctance to fix.

Last check was almost 1500 members. I'm not doing the math for you. And Japanese?! So, bought a new Acura back in 2006. I couldn't get them to fix a TPMS sensor with less than 5K miles. Oh, before that my Honda Pilot transmission detonated at 70K, with plenty of shared platform evidence. Corporate said "not our problem".

You really want Takata over Bosch?

Well if you don't like it then get rid of it. Nobody is forcing you. But do consider...

I've tried a couple Japanese bikes so far and darn are they boring. That is a no go for me. They feel and look atrociously dull. Something I also hear on regular base myself. They also have the share of problems. Maybe not has many bud darn are they boring.

But minus the glitches, what do you hear peoples saying about Ducati? 'Wow!' 'Great looking bike man' 'At last not an HD'. Or even better yet; 'It's not an HD but damn it look awesome'.

Yes our bike suffer from recalls and break downs but look at it this way. Mine as stacked up 43,700km on the odometer in less than 12 active months. That is a rather busy bike no? And boy did I had fun driving these 43,700 km.

Ducatis are certainly not the cheapest out there but I had the chance to compare and test drive the 'fun driving level' between similar priced bike of several brand and nothing came close to the Hyperstrada. Heck even the Multistrada 2015 is desapointing.

I was being facetious. My last 4 bikes have all been Duc's and I am looking for yet another, to sit beside this beautiful tramp.

Like any supermodel girlfriend, they are a pain in the *** sometimes.

Could you please clarify some things? Might save us all some trips to the dealer.

Do you know exactly what are they replacing with the recall? Is it the throttle grip itself? Just the electronics within the throttle grip assembly?

Did they mention anything about Ducati issuing newer heated grips that will work with the "fix"? Or if these will these also be recalled?

Bottom line. If you have heated grips, do not bother going in for this recall. It will not work.

The parts included the throttle spring, magnets and other parts inside the throttle assembly. I think it even included the metal housing. Not sure if it was a complete assembly or not as I didn't see it, but it did not sound that way from what my mechanic said.

My mechanic tried to transfer all the new parts into the heated grip throttle assembly, and could not make it work without throwing a code. The bike did start/rev as normal though.

he said that they likely had not thought out the heated grip issue, but expects they will eventually. We can only wait for that eventuality.

Thanks! I'll wait to see what's up. So far I have no issues but I am at like 750 total miles on my 2013, just bought it "new".

You have four ducatis and date supermodels? That's righteous.

I had 10000 miles, went to big bend from St. Louis through Arkansas. Got back and experienced WTF? mode. So I'll go in for the fix. I just hate the dealer where I bought the bike and not looking forward to their attitude. They act like they're too busy for normal business ops. and their know it all suggestions are wrong. Like lube clutch cable with wd40? No thanks. Guy adjusted my clock in front of me said it's never been set. I say no it's 10 minutes fast. Proceeds to set the clock back like I don't know how to set the clock.
Sad. And mad I have to go in there, subject myself to their ****.
You guys like your dealership, experience any extreme unnecessary rudeness?

My dealer treats me like family.
Is your dealer primarily ducati only?
There's another ducati dealer nearby who sells all kinds and I like that place. I bought my bike unfortunately at "the ducati shop" who sells some triumphs. So much attitude place gives me a headache. For recalls I got to go where I bought it. For everything else I go to the other place.

I have been to 3 Ducati dealers local to me. The first one, where I bought the bike, treated me like crap. Talked down to me. Shmoozed like dirty salesmen do. Scoffed when I asked for them to write something down. The next one was extremely friendly and accommodating, but left dangerously loose screws on my bike when performing a warranty repair so I had to go back and check everything myself. The last one has been mostly good. A little hard to deal with and slow/unresponsive at times, but they generally work with me and are friendly. It's really hit or miss.

Mine is a multi brand dealer, but Ducati is their flagship. THey also sell honda, yam, kawi, ktm. It's 3 miles up the road, and I have done some racing with the owner.

hey, i have a 2013 Hyper and at 1050 miles experienced the "limp mode" problem. ERRORS on dash, engine light, loss of power. Took the bike to my dealer Battley Cycles in Rockville, MD. They had no idea what I was talking about as this was the first instance of the particular problem for them.

They said protocol was to start a "U-Tech" (diagnostic assistance) with Ducati. (Basically they troubleshoot back and forth over the internet until they find the "smoking gun".

In the mean time Ducati issued this statement to me in an email:

Dear "my name",

Ducati Motor Holding S.P.A., after extensive testing, has determined that a potential problem with the throttle control on your Hyperstrada may exist. The problem may trigger the vehicle to enter an electronic safety protection mode. The resultant pre-programmed ‘recovery’ mode is designed to allow the vehicle to continue to be ridden, though the rider may notice a slight reduction in available power in certain instances.

It is important to contact your nearest Ducati Authorized Servicing dealer to have the throttle control checked and, if necessary, replace it with an updated unit which has proven to be more reliable. This operation is completely free of charge and can be done quickly. We ask you to book an appointment with your local Ducati Servicing Dealer.

We would also like to thank you for the trust you place in Ducati, and take this opportunity to send you our very best wishes.

The Ducati Service Team

With this information Battley determined the parts needed to correct the problem were the (1) Throttle Body, (2) Engine Control Unit and (3) Throttle Control.

These parts cost $2,901.59 luckily under warranty, which didn't really matter because this issue is listed on my invoice as a Ducati "Recall".

So for now the bike seems to run like new...stay tuned.
