MWR HE Air Filter

Any experience with this product: MWR HE Air Filter

Some threads on another site talk about it. One poster rated 8hp bump with a pipe and tune.

I called my shop and they said it's a common mod. They said definitely a noticeable bump in power/response with re-map. They offer the Rexxer re-map for $300, but I don't intend to do a pipe just yet.

They recommended waiting for map if planning a pipe. They said if you don't get the map, it chug's a little more down low, but still drivable.

Thoughts?

I personally would never change anything in my airbox without a remap. You could pony up for a rapidbike module and then you would be good to go no matter what mods in the future with the autotune feature. That is my eventual plan.

The MWR seems expensive for what it is but we dont have too many options other than the corse intake or just changing the airfilter for a higher flowing one.

Looks like most of the popular power modules go for about the price of the shop tune. Why wouldn't I just get one of those?

The main benefit of the rapidbike is the auto tune feature. You can add or remove mods at any time without having to remap or dyno your machine at a dealer as the module adjusts through the stock O2 sensors. If you wanted to do the airbox now and pipe later you could do that with the rapid bike and it would adjust without need for dyno/remapping. If you are doing all mods you will ever do at once then the point is moot. Below is the thread where I learned most of my info.

Update: pulled the trigger on the Rapidbike Evo. It was just smarter than paying for a one time tune and I'm sure the AF mixture wasn't going to be smoother after the MWR HE kit I'm installing. Just not wanting a pipe yet. I'll probably go ahead and disconnect/remove the butterfly.

A poster on duc.ms shows a Ducati Corse larger intake plenum cover that I can't find for purchase anywhere. All that I can pull up are intake pod kits. The poster with the intake runner is terrapete, if you happen to chat with him on that site please ask about it.

Thanks Dryer. Read pages and pages of threads on the .ms site. It's a pretty trick system. They claim this bike runs quite lean stock, which is expected in stock trim. The autotune, 02 sensor read (glad I don't have to bypass) closed loop feature are ****.

By the by, found the kit for $390 shipped from Italy. That's at least $150 cheaper than what I found domestically. I verified the specs and hardware before buying.

Should have all this and 9K mile tune wrapped up in 2 weeks. Super excited!

Got my Rapidbike Evo in the mail today, and it only took 3 weeks from Italy! Hopefully worth it for the almost $200 savings.

I say hopefully because it may be used. The wiring harness is definitely new. There are a few witness marks on the module that kinda look not ITB new. There's plenty of stickers front and back that look very clean but those could have been replaced. Still, I have an email trail that verifies NITB and trust eBay to back me up if I have issues.

Should be a pretty dramatic transformation over all. She'll emerge from the garage with:
-New plugs
-New oil/filter
-MWR HE Filter mod
-New levers
-Exhaust butterfly delete

Can't dig in until after Memorial Day. Keep you posted.

Where would you mount it by the way? Doesn't look to be a lot of room on these bikes!

The internal codes are 878027, "KRBEVO - 102 - EX"

But it more commonly is found as "Rapidbike EVO 821 Hypermotard"

There's a couple youtube vids of guys putting commander modules on 821's. Once you pull the gas tank it's pretty plug and play. I'm sure fitting the module under the seat won't be fun but it can be done. I could care less if I have to ditch the stock tool kit and cut some plastic. If things get really bad, I'll see if fitting a lithium cell battery will make enough room.

Bonus: they sell a quick shifter that the module is ready for.
