new here looking for bike

if you see yourself using panniers, stock or aftermarket ones, IMO the adjustable rear shock preload on the HS is a must-have, even if you don't plan on taking a passenger. if you get a HM and buy the mechanical/electrical features to convert it to a HS, the 2K usd difference won't be enough, assuming you find someone to sell you the rear shock with piggy back co's IMO that will be the most difficult part to come by. if you don't like the bags, i'm sure somebody will gladly take it off your hands for a reasonable price. the money from the sale you can use to buy aftermarket bags.

i too, didn't like the bags. they're too big for my purpose and cause too much wind drag on the highway, hurting fuel efficiency. i use tail bags instead. but i didn't NOT buy the HS co's there's one thing i didn't like about it. it's the totality of the bike being greater than the sum of its parts (read that somewhere :D) and the bags were just a minor annoyance.

that said, i'm on the market for a second bike. i'll probably wait for the monster with 821 motor and electric gizmos of the HM/HS that rumor has it they'll be rolling out of the factory late this year or early next year

At this point I still have not taken the bike for a test drive. But just sitting on them I do love the position. I'm just weighing all my options. Also I'm not a huge fan of the white paint. I do love the red frame with black paint

There are not many saddlebags that will withstand a crash. I once 'removed' one from my Kawi GTR1000 on the bumper of my own pickup, in my own driveway! I think the stockers are okay for occasional use. I carry a simple retractable cable lock in my tankbag if I need to leave my helmet with the bike.

I'm with Omoishiroi, the Strada is simply more versatile than the regular Hyper. As well as nearly every other bike I can think of! Track days, blitzing the back roads, touring with or without a passenger, dirt roads, even riding to work, does it all in style and comfort. And, unlike lesser machines, with a generous amount of "soul." The only other bike I have that generates as much attention from onlookers is my Velo.

And for some reason the LEOs profile the white Strada as harmless. That alone is worth a lot.

I really do think the white paint has some kind of cloaking technology. I routinely pass cops doing 10-15 over and they don't even flinch. Is it the bags and upright stance, or, because the plate isn't buried vertically in the rear fender over a 4' long swing arm?

I even got let go the one time I got pulled over. And I deserved it - ripped through 3 full gears when the light turned green. This was amazing as I have about a 95% ticketing rate when pulled over.

I just want to say thank you to everyone here for being so helpful. I am going to try and sneak out of work this week a little early to go to the dealership. The dealership closest to me has a new 2013. The furthest dealer has a new 2014. Do you think there is room on price for the 2013 to go?

I'm from Boston too. A month ago I purchased red Hyperstrada from Seacoast Cycle in NH. Very good experience. It was 2013 demo with 7 miles. Paid $11500. They had the same deal on the white one. It could be still available.

+1 and I get about the same reaction when on our Road Glide. I think they look at it and wonder if they should get one next...

If you want a deal call the BMW Ducati dealer in Daytona Beach. My salesman's name was Hawkeye and I saved $3000 compared to my local dealers best price. Cost $500 to ship. Well worth checking into. wpmotorcycles.com 386-257-2269

Great, but I suggest you start off with the Ducati Safety Pack set to "Touring." The throttle has very short travel, and I found "Sport" to be too aggressive in town.

Yesterday I hung with a well-ridden late model R1 on Ortega...none of the other bikes you mentioned would do that. The Strada is actually a superbike in drag! It's a "Dresser"....;)

I loved the bike. It was great. Sat a little further forward than I expected. But nothing I didn't like. I am hoping to sign for it tomorrow

Signed for it today for 11.500 plus all the taxes... I can't wait till I pick it up Sat morning

... The motor is also amazing. I was a little worried about the smallish displacement (for a twin) but it's a technical masterpiece....

That says it right there. I adore the engine on this bike. Perhaps I'm weird, lame or whatever, but I can't imagine ever thinking "jeeze if it only had more torque / HP..."
