Newb thread - Hyperstrada fuel range on reserve?

Firstly, I know there is no reserve…but I’m old and used to riding dirt bikes. But secondly, how pessimistic is this fuel light? I’m on my second tank of fuel on a 2016 939 and I’m a little dumbfounded. First tank I added fuel at 16 miles into the light. Only took 2.5 ish gallons, thus leaving 1.7. Second tank I added fuel at 30 miles into the light and only took 3.3 gallons. By my estimation, given my average mpg, I should be able to go almost 70 miles into reserve?

How crazy is that? Am I setting myself up for a call to AAA?

I have 2016 HS and the light comes on around 200km's give or take. If i fill it up, it will take about 10 liters. So i get approximately 20kms/liter. That means that with 6 liters left in the tank once the light comes on, i will have 120 km's range till bone dry. Doing the conversion, 120km's is 72 miles. Therefore by my calculations...you may not be crazy!

How brave are you, and where are you at the time reserve comes on? LOL I've gone nearly 40 miles - I'd rather not.

I like to push the limits but not the bike
I’ve been on the commute, not terribly far from home.

OP knows his facts. Owners manual for a 939 (page212): Fuel tank, including a reserve of 1.05 gal (4 cu dm - liters) is 4.22 gallons (16 cu. dm liters)

Distance on reserve is effected by how you ride, terrain, elevation, wind direction. I have seen big differences between city riding and highway cruising.

It feels like the light comes on with 1/3 of a tank left.

I've run mine completely dry and never managed to put a full 4 gallons in there, I suspect there is somewhere in the tank that the pump can't reach. The reserve light pops around 80 miles for me and I can usually got another 25 to 30 miles before things get iffy.

Had an impromptu test this morning on the way to work. Ended up running the bike out of fuel but was thankfully able to move across traffic on the interstate, coast down the shoulder onto the off ramp, and into a gas station. Thank God gravity was working in my favor!

Took 3.88 gallons from ‘empty’ to full. I have no idea why they’d claim 4.2 gallon capacity when the bottom 0.312 gallons are inaccessible, but some engineer in Bologna is laughing in their espresso.

Btw, that gave me a range of exactly 180 miles.

Yeah there's always a little extra sloshing around in there, annoying. Impressive mileage, my light comes on around 80 - 90 and I've run dry around 130 or so, as such I try to avoid pushing my luck.

I’ve been averaging 46-49 over the past 2k miles (since I bought it). Coincidently, I added my top case and the past few tanks have been in the 52-54 mpg range. That’s about 75% highway @ 80+mph and backroads the rest. Either the fuel has gotten better or the top case helped. Eager to see if it lasts.

Same here. I use to ride until 200km. The light was off still, but will light on with 220-230km.
My average km/h is 120-130. It makes 20-22km/L.

I already had dry pan(is it right? I got without gas) 2 times. I was experiencing to know how much reserve could ride. And is it: 70miles on reserve if you ride around 80mph
