Problems downshifting.

Today while out running errands I began having trouble getting down to 1st gear. It feels like it's there since it won't go down further but I'm still in second. If I then lift the shifter slightly and push down again it hits 1st. This is only with the engine running. Shut off it shifts up and down normally. Can't see anything wrong with the shifter itself, it's tight and hasn't changed its range.

Any ideas what's causing this?
 
I do. It's the adjustment that is under the left side cover. The shift arm adjustment
 
Gatdammit, do you still miss 5th to 6th from time to time? After all the mods I have done, mudder spring kit, stiffer springs, billet pressure plate, factory pro ceramic detent kit, hydraulic actuation conversion, various shift levers, quick shifter and ultimately dry slipper conversion I still miss 5th to 6th sometimes if I'm being lazy.

Technically there is a neutral between each gear and if ou are lazy at shifting, it's possible to get into neutral between each gear. at some bikes it's easier, on some bikes its nearly impossible. but, it's the kind of working of a manual transmission in bikes.
With our Hypers it's quite easy and I managed to find neutral in various gear changes on my bike, not only between 5. and 6.
This has nothing to do with clutch, you can change many things with clutch, but you cannot change the internals of the gearbox and how it works.

This actually does help with missed gears. I still get the 5th to 6th when being lazy though. It's a slightly redesigned detent for the actual barrel selector inside the motor. It's under the clutch on the right side. It includes a stiffer spring, a smaller wheel, slightly redesigned arm amd ceramic bearing. Made a difference but I wouldn't put it on the "must do" mods unless you have a bunch of false neutrals everywhere.

The shop says the shift fork has no adjustment to it. It's bent and needs to be replaced. They're supposed to call me back to schedule a pick-up.

Is this true? There's no adjusting the shift fork?
 
I don't know what to think. I'm suspicious this shop is trying to make a mountain out of a molehill so that they can charge more. At the same time I don't care for their track record with my bike. Shortly after getting it back from them for the recall work the odometer goes out. Shortly after getting the odometer fixed now the shifter is messed up. My spidey senses are tingling. Especially after the odometer work I was suspicious about their mechanic taking my bike for a half hour test ride. Nothing mechanical was worked on.

I think I'm going to rent a truck and take the bike to the service center near NYC.
 
My HS is scheduled for service in NYC next week and I've reserved a Uhaul truck to get her there. If all goes well she won't be coming back. I'm going to try trading her in while I'm there. I've had enough of the problems and enough with this local shop. Time to move on.....
