Whilst I pop off to Australia to lay down the foundations so I can **** it across next year.

She'll be in a nice dry garage, but can anyone give me any pointers or share their experience of what needs doing when she's gonna be in hibernation please?

Stabilize Fuel, Battery on tender, and up on track stands (prevents flat spots on tires). Those are really all you need. Put a cover on it if you want to prevent dust from settling on the paint.

Hopefully your 9 month break isn't too hard on you! ;)

I love having a father with too much time on his hands. I've been gone for 6 months and he always keeps my toys running while I'm gone.

Good luck on the move. Always wanted to visit that continent.

Full tank of ethanol-free gas with stabilizer. If you don't have stands to lift the wheels off the ground then use a rubber pad and higher tire pressures. Depending on conditions, mouse and insect deterrents.

Thanks guys, really appreciate the well wishes.

So what's the deal with this fuel stabilizer? Never heard of it before..

Keeps the fuel from gumming up with age. Make sure it's made for ethanol gas.

Also - I'm going to assume you meant "ship" and not "****" because that's a whole other problem to solve.:)

Remove the battery. This eliminates parasitic drain. Also allows battery to be on tender, though I think it is a bad idea to just leave any battery on any tender.

Lube chain.

Center stand.

Stabil or other quality stabilizer. Fill with fresh gas when you return.

It does something to the gas that prevents it from gumming up and prevents any water that gets absorbed from pooling up. I add it to any carbureted engine that will sit for more than 2 weeks. It doesn't hurt to add it to your bike too.

Stabil is the good stuff. Put it in a carb'd motorcycle. Sat for 9 months. Started right up and never needed any carb work.

Link to why add stabilizer: AMSOIL Gasoline Stabilizer

Gasoline Stabilizer
Formulated to Resist Gasoline Breakdown
For maximum convenience and cost-effectiveness, equipment and
vehicles used seasonally, such as motorcycles, snowmobiles, personal
watercraft, snowblowers, outboard motors and classic cars, need to start
easily and run properly when removed from storage. Gasoline, however,
is not formulated for long-term storage and can start to degrade in as
little as 30 days. Degraded fuel leads to varnish and sludge that clog
injectors, fuel lines and carburetors; stick floats; and cause poor engine
performance, starting problems, increased maintenance expenses and
decreased equipment life.

AMSOIL Gasoline Stabilizer (AST) inhibits the oxidation process that
occurs when fuel is stored for extended periods, improving performance,
extending equipment life and decreasing maintenance expenses.

Delivers Confidence
Treating fuel with AMSOIL Gasoline Stabilizer prior to storing equipment provides confidence. It offers peace of mind that equipment will not only start when it is needed, but will also perform properly.

Eliminates Need to Drain Fuel
Draining fuel from equipment can not only be difficult, it invites corrosion on the bare metal in the tank and drying and cracking of gaskets and seals. Some fuels are pre-treated with oxidation inhibitors that allow them to be stored for short periods without forming excessive deposits, while other fuels have no inhibitors at all.

AMSOIL Gasoline Stabilizer eliminates the need to drain fuel from equipment before long-term storage. It fights fuel deterioration, severely limiting the formation of damaging varnish and deposits to help extend equipment life.

Decreases Maintenance
Deposits, varnish and sludge that form from degraded fuel can cause important
components in the fuel system to become clogged or stuck and require thorough cleaning or replacement. AMSOIL Gasoline Stabilizer helps reduce maintenance time and costs by preventing harmful deposits from forming in the tank and fuel system, eliminating the need to clean or replace carburetors after long-term storage.

Bring it with you we have good riding weather all year

Thanks again guys.

Appliance - I did indeed mean 'ship' rather than '****'. Quite an appropriate typo though - after giving her a full treatment to go into storage yesterday, I realised I now have ANOTHER problem - the wires from the neutral sensor have obviously started to go (as happened to another member here). She wouldn't find neutral unless I gave the white plastic cover over them a good wiggle. Yay.

I've come to the conclusion that every aspect of owning a Ducati is ****, other than the most important one; the feeling you get when you ride her.

Oh I fully intend to man. That's why she's in storage - until I get back here mid next year - when I'll find a shipper to bring my bikes and tools over before I head back out.

If you're in Brisbane, drop a note!

I'm an immigrant too. Been here for 16 years. Happy to give you some pointers on how not to look too Pommy!

not trying to be a nosy beggar , but just wondered if you were using a professional storage place ? Reason I ask is that I'm looking for a place to store in UK and it's bit harder than I thought finding a good place at a reasonable price.
If you wouldn't mind dropping me a PM even Jokeshopbeard ref storage. Be much appreciated
