I did the opposite and found it easier on my end. Replaced my battery today. I pulled rubber strap upward and attached to the bracket the blackbox is mounted to then pushed the chromish ring downward to engage and add final tension. It felt like the black strap secures it and the chrome ring is a tensioner of sorts.The only trick is getting the tie down strap on - put tension on it, press the metal ring into place, THEN pull the strap over the top hook. Only took me 6 years....
