Seat Comparison - KonTour Race Strada

My disappointment with their offering is the compromise in wet riding. The suede needs a plastic cover. Otherwise I might have tried them.

"How does suede hold up to the elements?

Suede is a natural material that will absorb moisture and may be a concern for those who ride in the rain. We recommend vinyl over suede if this is a concern. "

For fair weather riders Renazco might well be an exceptional choice.

Riding in the mountains mostly, I expect to be in the occasional rain storm. The last thing I want is pooled water in the seat at the crotch. Been there, done that, never again.

The springy 3D cover Ron uses is unique in that it allows for airflow under by bottom, cooling when hot out, and allows any water to flow away when it rains.
On my last seat from Ron, 1,000 miles days were fine for my bottom.

I ordered the black grain vinyl top with black carbon fiber sides. Same as I have on my Honda. I don't slip on the vinyl top and I've been caught out in the rain a number of times. We'll see how it does. I just need something more comfortable than the hard racing seat or the OEM which locks me into a single position. I have a hard time after about two hours on either of them.

QUESTION, did you send them the stock seat pan to wok on ? Wife very interested in this kontour seat. And what is the final cost for the seat shown in op?

I sent Ron the stock Hyperstrada seat. He used the same box to return the modified seat. My discounted previous customer price was $705. Ron communicates best by email. He may be on a boat near San Diego now, so ...

Send Ron an email and ask about what you want.

The other huge custom seat maker is Russell Daylong. But, their seats are shaped like tractor seats. Way too huge for the Hyperstrada.

I sent Ron the OE seat and photos of where I sat on the seat. My weight and size dictated the larger seating area.

Options are limited as our OE seats have nearly no foam and it is that foam that is built upon as support for Ron's added memory foam layers.

Heated seating is optional, but I didn't want to add to the heated handgrip and heated vest draw I currently use. Remember we only have a 490 watt system.

I paid $705, which is a previous customer discounted price. Expensive yes, but that is value priced compared to what other real custom seat makers charge.

I still have the race seat for those times I might want that look.

Did this add to seat height ? And ya would ask to copy what they did to your seat. So may ask for specifics if u got it

Every comfort modified seat adds height. I wanted the added legroom too. Maybe 1"?

I sent Ron links to photos of me riding, since his email prohibits attachments.

You need to email Ron and discuss what you want. That's the best.

I wanted the OE seat riding position with a wider butt area and thicker foam.

for my hyperstrada i have 3 seats now - the stock HS seat in normal height, the lower seat and now also the SP sportseat.
normally i use the lower seat, its really comfortable for me, also after hundreds of kilometers. from the height there is not much difference to the normal height seat, just a little.
for the track i bought the sp sportseat and tried it on stree first - wow, its really hard and uncomfortable, and the height is a lot more. I am not sure if it is the right seat for me for trackuse. but i will give it a shot.
for streetuse its definitly useless for me.

Hey ferdi, would it possible for you to take a picture with all 3 seats in the frame? I would like to see the side profile of each of the seats when placed next to eachother. My only complaint with the stock seat is that I would like to slide back an inch or 2 while riding but due to the contour of the seat it's not possible. I've been thinking about getting the race seat beacuse it appears flatter and looks like I would be able to slide back some on it.

The performance seat FTW. I have three saddles as well but only ever take the performance saddle off when I plan to carry a passenger. I find the stock saddle forces me too close to the tank.

.

Not true, I fitted a gel pad into my comfort seat, in which you cut the original foam out to the size and shape o the gel pad. Then fit the original cover back on, so the seat is same size and shape of the standard but with the added benefit of a gel pad. Which does improve comfort.
I also have the ducati racing seat, which is very hard, and only use when doing a track day or short blast.

Yeah that's what I was thinking about getting. Also saw a used Corbin that looks as though it might have the extra room I'm looking for but the seller can't say for sure if it will work on my '16 strada 939 so I don't know if I want to take the chance that it might not work.

seat will fit, all seats from all hypers fit all models. there is no differnece between 821 and 939. i also have 821 seat on my 939.

i will take a picture of all seats side by side.

Page 1 shows with great detail the difference between the OE and Race seats.

Guess I should have read the whole thread huh? lol. Looks like the race seat is the shape I'm looking for but it also looks like it might add some height as well? How much higher is the race over the stocker? I'm not 100% sure but I might have the journey/low seat on mine. Guess I'll need to pull it off and see what part # it is. I've seriously considered having my seat reworked but I think I will pick up a race seat and if I don't like it then I'll have that one reworked and still have my stock seat to fall back on if I still don't like the race.

raceseat is a lot higher and harder.
you can feel that with the feet, but even more you feel it because you sit more on the bike (like on a motard) and not in the bike (like on a touring bike).
in my opinion the seat transforms the bike really

Race seat is quite a bit taller- probably 2 inches higher than stock. I cant quite flat foot the bike when that seat is on, but that's no biggie since it's so light. I'm 5'10" with a 32" inseam. I have done 500 mile days on that seat and while I wouldn't call it plush it was acceptable.

The comparison photos show the difference between the two seats.

The difference isn't so much height as shape. Funny how small differences in shape can affect how the reach to the ground can be affected. Slide forward or back and the reach to the ground can change a lot.

Sitting on the KonTour seat is completely different. Higher when sitting in the sweet spot, I have the leg room needed for comfort. Slide forward and the reach to the ground was the same as the race seat.

On cross country touring bikes many, like me, spend fortunes on finding the right seat. 1,000+ mile days requires a comfortable seat when you have a tender bottom, like mine.

I'll probably try out a race seat. Anyone lookin to sell theirs? lol. I am a bit worried about the added height. Even with the low seat I'm up on my tip toes. 2 inches higher would mean I would have to shift off to 1 side and barely be able to get 1 foot down. I think it's worth a shot though. If it's impossible or too uncomfortable then I'll just get it re-worked and go from there.

So I was wondering if you guys can confirm something for me? There are 5 seats available for the strada/motard? The standard seat (possibly part #59610741B), the journey seat which I currently have (part # 96880062A), the low seat (part #96880072A), the racing seat (part #96880082A), and the seat for the SP models (possibly part #59521862A)? I can't seem to find definite part numbers for the standard seat or the SP seat. Also, all seats are interchangeable with the 821/939/SP models 2013 thru 2016? From the looks of it the older 796/1100 seat definitely will not work? Just curious cause I'm looking at buying a used seat and I don't want to waste money buying one that won't work on my Hyper. As long as it will work on my bike I know that if I don't like the seat I'll be able to take it to a local guy to get it re-worked.
