When Ducati first introduced the Hypermotard 821 lineup, I was ecstatic about the Hyperstrada variant and fell in love. A few years later, the Hypermotard 939 platform was announced, and I was pleased the entire lineup continued to evolve... until it didn't. Ducati announced the next generation Hypermotard for 2018, and there was only the SP variant. It was a sad day for Hyperstrada owners...

Nearly a decade ago, a fellow Ducatista from our forum mentioned we should change this site to a dedicated Hypermotard community, and I strongly considered it. I thought the Hyperstrada would always be a part of the Hypermotard family, until Ducati left it behind.

First and foremost, I want to say that this site will never go offline. This is the only site with a repository of good information to help and support Hyperstrada owners. That will never change.

Moving forward, what does the community think about this site changing to a Hypermotard forum? The 821/939 Hyperstrada platform is applicable to the same Hypermotard platform, and I expect the Hypermotard to see a V4/V2 upgrade in the near future, since that's the direction Ducati seems to be going with every bike in their current lineup.

All thoughts and feedback is welcome and greatly appreciated.

Remembering the original Hypermotard / SP / Hyperstrada family...

Can't it just be entitled the HyperMotard/Strada forum? I appreciate the fact that the 'Motard has outlived the 'Strada in Ducati's view but it is such a good model that it deserves to remain visible so long as the bikes themselves exist. Ducati has a tendency to abandon unique and treasured models like the SportsTourer series, despite the fact that all the other manufacturers brought out their own STs, so you might say it's a sore point for me!

Nick, '99 ST4, '13 HS and a couple of Ducati Cagivas among the rest...

Another thought: if the name is changed to Hypermotard, it would necessarily include the earlier two-valve models which must differ from the four-valvers in many ways, perhaps especially the electrics? So if a name change was on the cards, maybe the 'Strada name should take precedence and the description refer to the later 'Motards in particular? Not that I have any issues with the earlier bikes because I thought they looked stunning when they came out and I guess their owners are enthusiastic about them too and might breathe extra life into the forum. Just my thoughts...

I think it should change to Hypermotard and allow ally hyper variants in. It will increase traffic and help to spread info. Every other forum is not specific and allows for all Ducati. This will target hyper owners specifically which will create growth for everyone.

I'm in favour as long as forums are delineated to minimize confusion between Hyper Flavours.

Looking at the Hypermotard models lineups over the years, based on engine:
  • 2023+ | Hypermotard V4/V2 (Expecting Announcement)
  • 2018-2022 | Hypermotard 950 (Simply a revised 939 motor)
  • 2016-2017 | Hypermotard 939 (w/ Hyperstrada variant)
  • 2013-2015 | Hypermotard 821 (w/ Hyperstrada variant)
  • 2010-2012 | Hypermotard 796
  • 2008-2012 | Hypermotard 1100
The direction I'm leaning (pun intended) would be 3 forum sections:
  • Hypermotard V4 / V2
  • Hypermotard 950 / 939 / 821
  • Hypermotard 1100 / 796
A few notes:
About naming... one thought was keep the site name as Hyperstrada, since this brings together both Hypermotard and Multistrada riders.

But technically, the Hyperstrada is part of the Hypermotard family, and it makes more sense to change the site to a Hypermotard name/forum and have the 3 sections mentioned above.

Not an easy decision...

Well thought-through and logical. I guess that since my choice, the HS, is obsolete and unlikely to be supported elsewhere, it makes sense to strengthen the community that still includes it. Go for it!

I'm with @nickwst4 Hypermotard/strada - I think strada shuld be in there. There is a lot of overlap, But the strada is not just a motard with a windshield: There are suspension differences, engine differences, and of course a finer cut of discerning rider.

Hey, fellow 'tards! Not sure what I missed. For months this site just didn't work for me anymore. Couldn't post and loaded with errors on all platforms and bunch of different IP attempts. Looks to be back up, which is great.

*Regarding site, what's wrong with just "Hyper Line". The Strada/ Motard lineup were so interchangeable that I always just referred to it as the Hyper family.
Other than that, agree with Duc's suggestion on how to arrange the site. We need Motard knowledge and experience. If you've ever searched the .ms site for answers, you know what I mean.

Important Site Update
When I first made this thread, I was making plans towards changing the site name to Hypermotard, because a) I could not come up with a better name, and b) technically speaking, the Hyperstrada family is part of the larger Hypermotard model lineup.

And at the same time, I also didn't want to alienate or take anything away from the Hyperstrada community we have, since this place exists because of everyone here. My intentions are to make everyone happy, both the existing Hyperstrada community, while hoping to grow our community with Hypermotard riders too.

And this comment by @gatdammit really resonated with me...

That said, a domain name change to ducatihyper.com will be happening in the upcoming days... I feel the name Ducat Hyper embodies both Hypermotard/Hyperstrada riders.

Everyone's accounts, logins, etc. will stay the same. And hope our community continues to grow...

I'm in favour of the idea.
Among others on this forum I'm part of the Facebook group "Ducati Hypermotard UK" and I'd definitely say 'motards and 'stradas coexist on there very well.
I've even given advice on there linking to posts on this forum where applicable to both bikes.

So i say make it a hyper site and join forces with that group as a sister-Facebook group haha.

Just to reiterate that Duc's last post seemed to fit the bill perfectly: ducatihyper.com says everything it needs to and includes everyone. Personally, I wouldn't touch Zuckerburg's money-making scheme with a barge-pole even if others have no quarms about privacy and exploitation of their personal details. OK, so I'm old but still young enough at heart to relish my 821 'Strada!
