Slip-On Exhaust, what's your experience?

I'm currently in the market for a slip-on but with so many out there I'm not sure what to choose. So, I come to you guys asking what you have gone with?
How do/did you like it? Did it have a nice low tone, an annoying tinny sound? Was it too loud? Did you remove it and go with something else, what did you replace it with? I'm not looking to spend Termi/Arrow/Remus money right now, my budget won't allow it or I would probably go with an Arrow. I'm just looking for a nice low growl, not overly obnoxious & LOUD. Would like it to have a removable baffle as well.

What say you?

Here are a few I'm considering...
LeoVince(heard it might be obnoxiously loud)
GPR(currently at the top of my list)
MIVV(doesn't look like they make one for the '16 939)
Giannelli(never heard anything about this one)
DanMoto (super cheap compared to the others, probably that way for a reason)

I'm happy with my shift-tech, i posted many many side by side pics recently. They had a sale going on, I'm not sure if they still do. Pipes like the Ackro and Arrow will need to purchase the mid pipe too. The shift-tech comes with it for ~$550 during the sale. I also wanted to stay away from the tinny raspy noise. From what I read, the short SC concepts, Noriyoshi(I posted a sale on those recently), and other pipes that have a beer can shape will be loud and the pipes with structure n shape to them will have a deeper solid tone. Also, Spark makes a really cool pipe that include the mid pipe and valve delete

Did you go with the Akra on your Hyper? How do you like it?

Thanks for the info. That shift-tech looks good. How is the sound? Nice deep burble but not too loud?

I've seen a bunch of "counterfeit" exhausts on ebay lately. They look the similar to the real brand but are super cheap and come from China... I searched for "hyperstrada exhaust" and basically everything between $50 and $150 is a "fake" lol.

Fake M4 (they blurred out the brand on it lol)

Nope I have a full Termi system which I love primarly because it smoothed the bike out and gave it a noticeably bump in power.

I am staying stock. The stock pipe actually makes pretty good sound especially at highway RPMS. It cracks pops and burps on over run. Its slightly quiet at idle but nice. However it is UGLY AS SIN.

The Akra is going to be 4 times as loud as stock and adds less than one horsepower. Look at the dB rating!! Boo... If you ask me the Ducati engineers did a damn good job if aftermarket can't squeak out even one more HP!

I'd rather save my money on a retune to make the bike less jerky and improve fueling. If that is even possible.

I'm not looking for more power. If I were I would just spend the money for a full system and a re-tune. I just want something that looks good, sounds good(maybe a bit louder) and doesn't cost a ton of money(preferably under $500).

I also wasn't looking to squeeze the most power out. I wanted to change the look, get a nice tone and let it breath a little better. I couldn't be more happy with the shift tech. It has a deep rumble and not raspy at all. The link I posted in classifieds has a pipe under $500. Also, hot bodies has a pipe, it's like $250 but I'm guessing it is very loud. I also did a [email protected] intake. They allow alot more air flow. Next is a tuner and then just carbon fiber parts that I will make myself.

I put an Akra on mine. It's not too loud at all. I was actually fairly disappointed but I was coming from an RC51 with Ladybirds. Not many bikes can compare to that. Overall, the Akra is well priced and great quality. Not too much louder than stock in my opinion. And yes, I removed the baffle.

I went with an Arrow in the matte black color. I ordered it direct from Arrow in Italy and the price was very reasonable. It has a removable baffle. I found it too loud with the baffle out, too quiet with it in. I ordered another baffle from Arrow to experiment with. That was pretty pricey, but I was afraid of messing things up if I started hacking into it. I drilled a new set of holes in it and created my Goldilocks dB killer. I also ditched the flapper valve and got a replacement mid pipe with the holes welded up.

I think the bike sounds pretty good. It's not so loud that I piss my neighbors off when I leave for work at 5:45, but has a much deeper growl than stock. Gotta love that sound ducs make under load.

Ended up going with the GPR. Won't be here til after the 1st so I'll update how I like it once it arrives. If I end up not liking it it'll be for sale next month and I'll save up for an Arrow or Termi next year lol.

Your data on the MiG is inaccurate...You may be quoting stats from Akra without cat-delete, which is just silly if you're going to put a pipe on for performance. This is how it acts with cat-delete:

- WITH DB Killer, little more bass/boom down low and throatier at full twist. Never removed DB killer because, as noted, stocker was loud enough and I don't enjoy pissing everyone else off with an exhaust that pops fillings out of your teeth.
- Charts I saw said 3+ HP; 5 with the full system. Hard to say as I have a tuner on.
- Definitely breathes and rev's better than stock. Probably little better with DB killer removed.
- Weight savings is probably biggest plus. It's easily 1/3 weight of stocker; maybe 5 lbs savings. That's significant on a 399 lb dry bike. Combine that with Lithium battery and removing or replacing useless plastic, you're talking 5% weight reduction.

Also, a basic tune should include a filter upgrade and free flowing exhaust. The ECU doesn't even care if you only change one of these.

Fantastic! Some side by side pics would be nice when you get cracking in to it. I feel that side by side pics help others that are looking to make a decision, showing what the physical differences are in relation to the oem. Plus, making a new post with "GPR vs OEM hypermotard"(or something like that) will allow people to Google search and see your comparison/pics. I'm excited to see what you think.

Interesting on the performance gain #'s. Ducati estimates with the full Termi, air box mod and remap about a 5% hp gain. Or 6 hp. 5 hp for the full Akra sounds about right is you do the airbox and remap.

The data was listed on the links provided in the thread. I don't own the data.

only a day with the akra:

weight difference is more than noticeable, (like half..)
bike seems to be more responsible to the gas, i have like 5-7km/h more top speed
better sound, and a little bit louder, but nothing too loud (with db killer on)

need to get use to the smell without the kat...

So my GPR arrived 2 days ago(3 weeks ahead of schedule!) however my wife delivered our new baby 2 days ago as well! So as you can imagine it'll probably be a little while before I can get to installing the new exhaust. The few things I did notice by just pulling it out of the box, it seems very well made, definitely smaller/lighter than stock(probably by quite a bit), having instructions in Italian could be an issue but it seems pretty straight forward so I doubt it'll be a problem. So, with the new baby and Christmas just around the corner(hosting the family dinner at our house this year), my birthday just after Christmas and my wifes birthday the first week of January, well...it might be a few weeks before I get to the install. I will take some before/after pix and videos though(if I remember to lol).

Hi Punisher, this is your friendly reminder :)

I can get a good deal on a GPR can here so if you can share your experiences that'd be great!

Thanks, JamesC

I bought a real Project SC S1 slip-on with the extra Cata delete mid pipe. Got it used in great condition for $790.00. Paired it with the SC air filter as well. I regretted it at first because it was too loud. When in sport mode it does sound amazing though. I dare say the best sounding one. But its just too loud, hard to use sena with it. As I couldnt find a db killer for it I had a custom one made for it. Its more tolerable now. And its full titanium/carbon so its super light. I have had good results with gas mileage as well without any tunes or ecu flashes, just straight plug and play. Did a 700km in 24 hours tour this summer and went 265kms and the low fuel light hadnt come on yet. Usually with just a slip on you dont need to change the filter but its a good idea.
