Bought a small hugger to replace the HS standard - turns out you need to remove the wheel as getting to the third fastener is very difficult. I even shortened the Allan key and bent it a bit but no luck :(

Anyone else had the same issue and solved it?

Cheers :)

Yeah, I was able to get it off okay, but getting the screw started when putting it back on was tough. You can get a normal sized allen wrench on it and by taking the other 2 screws out, squeeze your hand in over the tire to move the allen wrench 1/2 turn at a time.

I did remove the rear wheel the first time, must pull the muffler and suspend the brake caliper with a rope/string. Took a 3' breaker bar to get the nut loose tho.

I was changing out the shock spring to lighter one to see if I could lower enough for my wife to ride, not able to get it but about 30" with 400 lb/in spring. She does not like to do one leg off so with 26.5" IS, guess she will stay on the Monster.

On side note, the Monster (2009 696/1100) shock is 3/4" longer eye to eye, so it will not fit either, at least to lower the bike.

Cheers for that. I hadn't thought of undoing the other two first. I'll give it a go - I've only got wee hands so maybe that'll help :)

I'm only 5'7" with a 30 il and can get both balls of my feet down or one fully, to be honest that's normally enough. It is taller than my 1100s though.

Thanks again.

Still couldn't get to it. I've bought a 46mm socket to remove the wheel - it's a pain but needs to be done. Form over function :)

That 3rd bolt just vibrated off mine.. Took the hugger off when I noticed, love the look of the bike without. What hugger did you buy? Standard one off the hypermotard? And did it come with new fasteners.

Yep, standard short from the HM - still haven't fitted it yet Yes, it came with fasteners.
