My bike was riding great in the spring at an ambient temperature below 10 degrees Celsius. As the weather warmed up, I started to notice slight surging at low speeds with constant idle. I figured this was what everyone was complaining about, and that the warmer temps were a factor. Switching to touring mode helped. But over the course of the last 4 months, it was getting worse and worse, and eventually even switching to urban mode didn't help much. Then as of last week, I was on the highway and the engine light came on and I lost all power - the engine would only idle, noe response from the throttle, I don't remember if "errors" came up on the screen because I was to busy trying not to get run over by the string of cars behind me. This occurred at least 3 times on that 1.5 hour trip to. I thought it was because of the ethanol gas I was forced to use for the first time, or that I was low and creating too much vacuum in the tank, but filling up with ethanol-free didn't help, and the problem occurred sporadically over the next couple days. At stop lights, the idle was a little erratic (even for a Ducati), and it would occasionally stall.
So last night I decided I was going to try disconnecting the o2 sensors to rule out a bad sensor before taking it over to the dealer to have them check the TCU. In trying to figure out how to access the rear plug, I noticed a wire had come loose from the positive battery terminal (previous owner had installed mood lighting that I never use, so didn't notice there was a problem until I removed the seat). Once I tightened it up, it ran fine!
In retrospect, the battery was sounding weak during some starts, and when I checked the battery voltage through the menu while running it was over 14v, but when not running it was only 11 something (and at one point the screen just said LOW).
