Surging

I was driving home this evening on the freeway and it seamed like the engine was surging. I was holding a constant throtte position. The bike was in touring mode in 6th gear at about 6200 rpm. Has anyone noticed something similar?

My hyper is a 2013 model and does not likely have the latest ecu update. I'll take it in to the dealer this weekend.

mine does some surging between 4-5k and between 6-7k rpm. just a minor annoyance since i take it easy and mostly ride between 5-6k. if i felt like breaking the sound barrier, i take the rpm to 7k and beyond anyway. somebody mentioned to me that it has something to do with the flapper (exhaust) valve

somehow i always forget to mention it to the dealer every time i go visit

The ECU has to be updeted twice or to the latest version.

I updated mine at last July and January.

Thanks. I'll report back after the ecu update if that solved the issue.

Took a few thousand miles, along with the update, but my Strada will putt along at 2500 rpm without surging. I bought mine in May 2013.

since the last update, mine runs smooth, no issues hunting at constant revs or surging going into a bend.

I just got back from dealer after getting the updates. Unfortunatly the stumble/surge at 6200 rpm still exists. I also noticed its pretty bad at 7k as well. I have a California model. Maybe the calibration is compromised more for emissions.

You might just need more miles, also fuel quality has something to do with it - my last tank produced a lot more backfiring than normal. I generally stick to Chevron or Shell stations. Mine is Cali too, complete with charcoal canister.

Or just upshift!

visited the dealership last week to get the ecu update. unfortunately that same day, they were in the process of downloading the latest update from ducati and still had several more hours to go so i had to come back the next day. turned out i should be already be getting the third update but have not gotten even the first one yet

no more surging and bike runs smoother after being updated

The Strada is a 50-state model. No difference in CA.

It was stated by more than a few, including my dealer, that the CA emissions canister can cause surging problems.

Between taxes, gun laws and emission restrictions, I don't know how people live in that state. Unless you're rich, in which case, well I wish I had that problem.

All the US bikes get that canister though. Something like 12 states have adopted the CA standards now and more are coming.

It's unfortunate that Cali has such influence on certain matters. And I'm sure that canister has fallen off the majority of bikes sold stateside.

Just one nobody's opinion. We don't need to get Biggie-Tupac over it.

Hi guys,

My bike has the current ECU update unless there's been a new one in the last couple months... I've got almost 8k miles on it with the charcoal can removed and I've always had the surging at 5800-6500 rpm, usually at almost constant throttle slight uphill or in a fast sweeper around 85-95 mph in sixth gear.. This has now been exaggerated by the fact that i installed a new high flow slip-on exhaust. I have resisted re-flasing the ECU but now it seems like I'll have to. Would it be wise to delete the servo when doing so?

thanks,

Mike

Were his lips moving? I've seldom removed a canister, and have not have surging problems. Perhaps Cali is important because we have the biggest population in the US and the 8th biggest economy in the world?

I admit, I'm biased - born at the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge. I personally wish folks would quit moving here! After every Rose Bowl, 10,000 frozen northeners show up...:p

I think my bike just got one of these episode today. I'll make sure to get the ECU updated next time it's in the shop.
