If anyone has removed this, would appreciate any tips or pitfalls. I should have access to the shop manual. Looks like it is removed/ inserted from left side and has a retaining bolt. Guessing I should support the engine before removing. Grease?

This job sucks, btw. It might be OK if you completely stripped the swingarm of wheel, drive, everything. There's tiny roller bearings inside at either end and a series of shims between the case and swingarm ends. All these fluid items and gravity fight against snaking the axle in.

I had the rear on a paddock stand and a lift under the engine. Also had a jack stand under the meaty section of swingarm near the axle as a just in case (it tried dropping to the floor).

I was bored and like a challenge...not. I snapped the right axle end off. Was in a fast sweeper and *POP*, right foot controls started moving around a bit. Turns out I put too long a bolt in the lower rear brake bracket that holds the boost pump/ reservoir. It was rubbing on the swing arm when the rear shock compressed. Hopefully also answers why my fancy new suspension never felt right.

Ah, well then, I'm stock down there bolt-wise so I'm gonna leave that well enough alone :) I do suspect I should service the rear hub soon-ish however. That job seems more straight forward.

I recommend doing the hear hub. At 15000km you won’t believe how much dirt and mud came out of the swingarm lower hole once the hub was removed. The hub grease was pretty dry also.

Good point. The grease on the OEM swing arm axle was like dried honey. 23K miles.

I third this. I didnt notice the cap in the front of the swingarm that blocks a hole had fallen out. Who knows how many kms ago. So debree was getting into the swingarm little by little.o_O

That's a lot of dirt! I had the locknet on the sprocket side loosen up during a ride which meant I put somewhere between 400 - 600 miles on it with a little slop in the rear hub. Took it to a shop to have things checked out so it will get looked over and lubed up while it's there.

It's not coming from the wheel or anything around the wheel. There is whole in the swingarm cavity at the chain cut out and I believe at the very front of the swingarm. It acts as a scoop for dirt and stuff. Someone makes a cover for the Multistrada hole but nothing for us. That's after 30k miles

No, no off road for me. It's just 30,000 miles of riding . There is no plus for the hyper swingarm. There is a tiny hole in the bottom of the eccentric part of the swingarm. This let's water out and small dirt but once it's bugged it just becomes a bucket to collect crap. It won't hurt anything. The bearings are in a different seperate piece.

I wouldn't . You could use an air compressor and spray it into the hole in the bottom of the eccentric and then blow it the other way.

If you ment with water, i wouldnt. I wouldn't want you to have water sitting in their that couldn't drain.
Air compressor, definitely do that if you are able to

I don't see how water can't get in there now. Quick ride down the block working the suspension would shake most of it out, no?

Maybe useful video for OP.
Here is a video how to remove the hub as well

This guy also has a vid on his chan of him removing the hub and a ton of water coming out. It was from all the times he pressure-washed the bike. The water does get stuck in there and it only comes out when loosening the hub. I didn't have water, just dirt.

That's ******* scary. Do you ride in the rain? I ride in the rain often. I don't pressure wash my bike (I wouldn't use a pressure washer on any vehicle I care about) but I certainly spray a hose in all the nooks and crannies when I was it, which is probably too much. But not from the bottom of the swingarm, which is where that port is.
