Thinking of buying Honda Grom

Honda Grom.

They just look too much fun and with cheap parts and heaps of add ons plus the ability to race, $4,000 AUD ($3,000 USD) new, what's not to like?

Anybody had any experience with these?

i own one, MY2014, with Yuminashi 164cc BBK and some other improvements.
the pictures are not the last version. Have also Koso clutch cover, Takegawa stronger oilpump and an Ohlins shock.

its pure fun, but i only drive it on little and twisty roads and not on highway.
even in gromforum many use it on highways also.
original its quite weak and slow and only makes half the fun (imho). mine is doing 115 km/h upright sitting, and thats enough for me and how i use it. for the little after work round and slow exploration of the countryside.
But, it's just a big toy.

actually it is 115 upright and 120-125 in full tuck .

its Yuminashi 164cc, - YUMINASHI 164CC ULTIMATE PLUS LIGHT BORE KIT (MSX/GROM125) (12103-K26-600AUP) - but mine is an older version with version 1 EMM (from Apitech).
Its a simple free programmable ECU which I tuned in many rides with the Yuminashi program active and my laptop on my knees during riding, together with an Innovate Lambdameter.
In Gromforum Yuminashi has no good reputation, but it works fine with me and imho is the best value. good hardware but no support. With this kit you do not need powercommander or other fuel adjustment tools, because the tuning Ecu is included. I would choose it again, also because i liked and like the tuning by myself. But, its not plug and play - even its told so, you have to tune your map by your own. I do not know one in gromforum for whom the standard map from yuminashi did work ok.
More popular (and sometimes stronger) are Takegawa, Monkeyfather(Finbro) and Kitaco and Koso Kits, of course depending on 2- or 4-valve and displacement.
But only Finbro has an own Ecu available, even its fixed and not tunable by yourself. But its a walking on a small ridge - the larger and stronger the BBK, the more to invest and/or the shorter its lifetime.
Finbro offers fully engines up to 231cc with 2 and 4 valve-heads. but nearly for the price of a Grom itself .
It completly depends on what you want to do with it.

additionally to my Yuminashi BBK my MSX (so they are named in Europe) has a 2Brothers full exhaust system, Michelin Power Pure tires with 140/70 rear, K&N filter directly on air intake, original airfilter box removed, short tail, lower handlebar, after market aluminium clutch and brake levers (cheap chinese ones work fine), other mirrors, Innovate lambdameter - https://www.amazon.de/Innovate-3844...qid=1468586695&sr=8-1&keywords=innovate+mtx-l - , stronger starter motor, Ohlins rear shock, .......

Groms are certainly popular. Around here you won't find one at a dealer for less than double the list price. But Kawasaki has a contender in the Z 125 Pro, which is $200 cheaper and has at least as high a spec.
