I’m getting some mixed answers from two local(ish) dealers. Does Ducati do a throttle body sync at the service intervals with their DVS tools? One dealer says the bike does this automatically and doesn’t need a service and another says they do it with the tool. Can anyone confirm?

I just did the valves, belts, coils, plugs, air box mods on my 939 and want to sync the TB’s if that is a thing.

This is probably not the definitive answer you’re looking for but this is what I found in the manufacturers maintenance manual. It seems like the throttle bodies can only be synced using the DDS2 and that it is not part of the Ducati service as it’s not listed in the maintenance schedule. Hopefully someone with actual experience can chime in.

Throttle Valve (ETV)
The ETV (1) and (2) is the motor that controls throttle valve opening and closing and is located on the throttle
body.
In case of failure it is not possible to replace only the ETV, but it is necessary to replace the complete throttle body.
Once replaced, reset the TPS, using the DDS2.
1 Horizontal potentiometer motor / ride-by-wire (Electronic Throttle Valve)
2 Vertical potentiometer motor / ride-by-wire (Electronic Throttle Valve)

Thanks for the response. Like you, I checked the manual...but like all things Ducati publishes, it's hard to know what to trust.

I was having issues with my bike. I thought it was the throttle bodies so I bought replacement. I took the old ones completely apart thinking that I could figure something out. I was wrong. It's a completely sealed unit and they are synced through the TPS. The only way to resynch the TPS's is to go to the dealer and tell them you want them reset. They do a soft re-sync every time you start them bike but sometimes the hard re-synch is needed. New throttle bodies did not fix the issue. Having them sync did. Later I read of another method for sync. Turn the key on, wait for the display to calm down, turn the key off. Turn the key on and wait for the display to calm down then key off. Turn the key on and wait for the display to calm down then key off. The process is 3 cycles of the dash. I have used it in more recent times and noticed a difference. Maybe a placebo affect but if it makes me feel better then it's good enough for me.

Thanks for the response - that is exactly what I was hoping to hear. I'll give the manual cycling a shot, as well.

Based on your feedback, I'm assuming you've done the research and concluded that there are no other commercially available tools that we can use to reset the TPS on our own? I used the Tuneboy on my Multistrada to do the maintenance minder reset (but no TPS). Although I hate spending money on services I can do myself, my real complaint is that my nearest dealerships are over an hour away and book out weeks in advance. My searching for something to perform these resets on this bike/ECU have turned up empty...

Melcodiag software with an OBD connector from lonelec will give you access to the ECU. Older bikes you can use this method to reset TPS but I'm not sure if you can on the 821/939, 950. I know there is a tab to do so but not sure if it's active for the models
