bent front wheel rim

just been for a week long ride around scotland , noticed that the front wheel rim had a dent in one side . the only thing i remember hitting was a cats eye in the road which seemed to be quite a hard hit ,but surely it shouldn't have bent the rim.
i have used a rubber mallet to knock the wheel back into shape and all seems good. anyone else had this happen ?

I have managed to put plenty of "smileys" in front rims over the years, but our roads are knackered and have more potholes in them than tarmac, to ding a rim on the smooth racetrack roads in Scotland is amazing:eek:

That must have been a hell of a cats eye, Tiger perhaps:D

I am a Brit myself, and come over there regularly as my family are in Scotland. I was born and raised in the Yorkshire Dales.

Last time I was over there I drove the road along Loch Lomond to Oban and couldn't help but think how luck the guys on bikes were:cool: I stopped at "The Green Wellie" and saw loads of guys sitting in the tea room. I must admit to being a tad jealous at the time.

In South Africa we can actually bath in the potholes:D, in lots of cases the roads are ripped up to be re-surfaced and the contractors gap it with the money never to be seen again, and the roads are simply never repaired.
I'll see what pics I can find so you dudes an have a laugh:) We also have cows, donkeys, goats, wild animals including 50 pound porcupines and other delights to deal with, not mention the natives full of booze:D
Riding over here can be entertaining to say the least.:D

Having said the above, with an average of 300 days a year of good weather I call these things and the other problems "sunshine tax"
Life over here is good, and I am not sure I could actually go back to the UK;)

And you thought I was joking:D

i live in leeds. we did a tour of scotland last week and even though they have just bodged up the roads in the dales for the tour de france ,the roads in scotland were in lots better condition than around where i live .
We got book of britains best biking roads and my mate has an app for his pone for winding roads, which kept us away from cop traps on the main "A" roads.
We will be going back but might need passports if the scots decide to leave the uk.

our lasses cousin used to work for a super bike magazine in south africa ,he has family in scotland too, he now does a show or blog on line (possibly even on telly down there) i think it is called lean angle or something like that.

We have a few local TV shows and mags related to biking, funny enough a
number of the journos and presenters are Brits:)
