Adventures in Hypermotard Tuning...

Just loaded the Kuksul map onto my 2014 Hyper SP with akro exhaust

I only took it out briefly BUT- huge positive difference in rideability at low RPM and cruising speed! Will report back after next spirited ride or track day to see how it felt. I would be happy to have it feel exactly the same ridden hard, with a more well behaved, smoother around town feel. =D

Been thinking of getting the STARACE intake and filter... i wonder how this map would cope with it.. any idea?

You probably won't notice a difference. The biggest improvement is cruising speed around town.
I created the fuel map with ducati performance intake.

decisions decisions.....

Used to have an 1100 Hyper and now also have a DVT PP Multi.

I was really hoping the Hyperstrada would be the perfect medium but it leaves a lot to be desired in the engine/fueling and suspension departments.

Thinking of trying the budget route by starting with an MGP pipe and some kind of tune (even if I’d enjoy the sound of an AR pipe wayyy more ha)
 
Like I've mentioned before I would just unplug the O2 sensors if I did it again. Live with the error light and save $400+

I'm so glad you said that. One of my O2 sensors is acting up again. I believe I have it locked down to a great tune using your map as a base. If I unplug the sensors will it just run your map and bypass the closed loop section lower in the rpm?

Theoretically yes, it will detect the sensor is not there and default to the open loop map.

But when you say unplug.... you mean just unplug the connector for the sensors and leave them in? Or remove them entirely and install plugs?

If you leave them in, they will probably foul since they wont be heated and getting covered in exhaust. It would be fine for a quick test though.

I was watching a video on PCV tuning the KTM 690 SMC R, and they mentioned a dongle that plugs into the lambda sensor harness to bypass the OEM closed loop tuning. It's just a couple of resistors, which I guess mimics the correct signal from the O2 to signal "correct" AFR. Shouldn't this work on our bikes as well, and does anyone know what that resistor value is?

It's the same as the Rapidbike Eazy and the booster plug as well as a few others. They are alot more simple to install. The ones I mentioned have a linear resistor in them so you can slightly adjust the resistance to give a wider range of ratios
 
I am unsure if it would reliably work. The ECU is expecting a signal like this:

And by using a resistor it will output a mostly flat line at a particular voltage (depending on the resistor value). So, maybe it thinks it's running normal and makes no changes. Maybe that voltage is on one side of a threshold and causes the bike to lean or richen the correction map until it reaches a limit. I don't know enough about the code to tell, and if it's an industry standard or if every mfr does it slightly differently.

The whole "trick" with the rapidbike was supposed to be that it spoofed the O2 signal, but I never dove in to see if it actually changed over time or not.

I'm not sure what the best solution is. The baseline map is pretty darn good so if you can reliably disable the O2's and the O2 correction algorithm that would be best.
 
Right. Misfire in 2nd @ 8K rpm or my "ERRORS" (engine) light. Running a little down in power/ smoothness. Hoping top cylinder coil, new intake manifolds help. About to strip it for deep maintenance.

I'll get the TPS reset after that. Probably tinker with my RapidBike some more but I think it's functioning properly
 
Kul, if I were to add(or replace) my O2 sensors with a wide band data logger like you did what should I be looking for? I am running a modified version of this tune you have here but was interested in possibly getting more detailed with the air fuel ratio. I'm assuming that with the Rapidbike evo I'm running, if I see a dip/spike in fuel ratio at any given rpm I could add/subtract fuel accordingly with the RB. I'm curious what a good 'bang for the buck' wideband reader costs.

I did a lot of research and settled on the zeitronix ZT2 with a pushbutton datalogger. It ran me about $400 with Bosch LSU4.2. It requires you to tap RPM and TPS wires and wire it to a relay so it turns on when the bike turns on to prevent thermal shock. I haven't used it so I have been thinking of selling it...

What you do with that data is where the hard work is. It is nearly impossible to just look at the data and know what changes need to be made since it bounces all over the place. It is easier in a controlled environment like a dyno.

I created a pretty complicated spreadsheet to filter and bin the data. It was fun but took many hours. If you were to take data I could enter it into my spreadsheet and output a map.

Any recommendations on o2 sensor delete plugs if I wanted to remove them? Or is getting different headers the only option?
Haven’t been able to find anything on the interwebs
 
I think they are just M10x1 threads or something? it's kind of a weird fine thread. You can just stick a short bolt in there.

For you guys who went the Rapidbike evo route, would you guys do it again? I got my finger on the trigger to buy one and Giuseppes air intake setup. My o2 sensors just died so I'm thinking a tune will help keep them from failing as fast. But I hear good things about just doing the T-800 is good enough. I hear you tell them your setup first and they can setup the map for you before sending it. Some of my touring trips take me high up into the mountains, 1100-1900 meters high. So I was thinking I need the tune on the fly with the rapid bike. Also, my bike needs to pass emissions checks every 2 years so I cant go crazy with tuning.
