Well bois n girls I’m 300 miles in and have found several small lack of detail issues with my hyper 698 mono. I would like to find out if others are having the same problems !
  • gear shifter binding… discovered this immediately during my test ride. A washer was installed as a temp fix… not great right out of the gate
  • gas tank pressurizing. Vent hose was left with a plug in it, I removed myself and checked with dealer before removing. Admitted it was missed during assembly
  • today I developed a LOT of play in the bars forward/backward and side to side. I mean like 1/2 to 3/4 inch total of play. They think the wrong bolt/bushing assembly was installed. Massive inconvenience as I can’t comfortably ride my brand new bike.

Sorry to hear that. I’ve had one big issue and my dealer is taking care of it. One of the bolts for the seat is damaged. It just spins. Cannot remove and take off the seat 😥 so no access to the USB or battery terminal or passenger strap. Dealer is ordering a new seat under warranty. We will see how long it takes.

Small niggles included 5 psi lower air pressure, low coolant level, loosely installed mirrors which spun out when I rode. Had to hold it and ride back home to get a 14mm wrench.

Its all part of buying a brand new bike I guess.

I have about 800 miles now and have had 3 minor issues so far.
- A small beauty cover on the left side fell off while riding and lost it, the dowels and rubber grommets are not sufficient to hold it.
- The two rear most grommets on the seat keep popping out when I ride so the seat lifts up from the back end slightly.
- When coming to a stop occasionally, I will pull in the clutch and the bike will die. This used to happen on my Panigale, but mostly went away with an exhaust and tune.

Like you said, all part of buying something new.

I have 600 kilometres on mine now and no serious issues. When the engine is cold, manual shifting needs a strong foot - with hot engine no prob. The neutral gear is sometimes difficult to get in.

Yeah I’m noticing the seat grommets to.. I haven’t had it die when pulling in clutch yet but my husqvarna 701 does it so I know exactly what you mean . Keep an eye on your bars, I’m curious if more people will have the issue or if they really did just instal the wrong bolts/bushings. I should be taking bike in any day .

I’ve kind of noticed that too. Have you noticed cold start issues? I’ll have to hit the starter 3,4, sometimes 5 times before it’ll start on a crispy morning .

No, I haven't. However...I don't have crispy mornings here in Spain...when I start driving it has 16-19 celsius.

Oh wow that’s nice. I experience it like around 2 celsius and colder. For a new bike it seems strange but maybe they just don’t like the cold.

Maybe due to the Li-Ion batteries which doesn't work too well at extreme cold. Turn the keys on and let it sit for a couple of minutes and the battery will slightly warm up due the lights and other electrical loads of the bike. Maybe that will help. 🤔

Thumbs up for warming the battery, but fellas, anything above freezing is not even cold, much less "extreme cold". I ride my Husky TE250i in the snow - electric start only, lithium battery - and it starts like a champ. I began converting my Harley FXRs over to lithium, and so far so good. Reliable starting in the 30s F (and overall a much-less-likely-to-short-circuit arrangement than OEM, in case any FXR fans are reading: FXR BATTERY CABLE KIT (FOR NOCO OR 20L BATTERIES) )

Still waiting for 698 delivery, keeping an eye on these potential issues.

I've been firing her up in near-freezing temperatures (around 2-3 degrees Celsius). I would turn on the ignition and wait about 1-2 minutes and then crank her up. She is very sluggish to start. Last time she would turn over longer than I felt comfortable to let her and I was almost sure the battery was dead. But then the second time she would cough up and start working.. So far she hasn't left me stranded, though every time I start her she feels like she is about to.
Maybe I would need to let the battery warm up even more before trying to fire her up but I am worried it will just drain the battery and I still won't be able to start her :D
First time I've had a problem like this on a bike but then again, I don't believe any of my bikes has had this type of battery before...

When you say gear shift binding do you mean while riding or while stationary? I didn't notice anything on the test ride but rode it over last weekend and pulled in the driveway and could not get it into neutral. Shifter was incredibly hard to move to get into neutral.

While stationary I could pull the lever up slightly and it would stay in place. Very stiff to move. I’ve heard other people talking about what you’re experiencing and I believe that’s sort of a break in period type thing. I don’t recall ever having issues with neutral but sometimes it’s maybe a little tough when it’s cold?

hope this helps

I find my transmission shifts great while the bike is moving, but at a red light, it occasionally takes 5-6 stomps to get it back into first from neutral. I'm going to try rocking the bike a little the next time it happens.

I don't know about N -> 1 because I only ride the tard in the twisties, and I'm in gear 99% of the time at lights anyway.. but try giving it little blip as you look for 1st.

On my end, so far no issues at 750 miles. My only minor complaint is inconsistent, snatchy fueling below 5K RPM.. but interestingly, after the 600 mile first service at the dealer this has improved to where it's somewhat tolerable.

I haven't computed the fuel mileage, but it's not great. OTOH, the throttle is twisted a fair bit.

Fueling below 5k RPM is a mess, even drifting and surging with steady input, but it seems very happy above 6k. :)

Pretty hard on gas, but the only concern there is running out of fuel in the middle of nowhere. On my 690 I would get 160 km to the light, with 13 litre tank and ECU mapped to full retard. I think I'm getting 120 km to the light on the 698 with 12 litre tank.

I have around 1000 miles on my bike and track the fuel consumption on every fill up. The fuel light comes on at 1/3 gallons left, so roughly that would be 3.8 liters when the light comes on for you. I know I can ride around 30 more miles before I really need to put gas.
So basically I reset the trip meter on every full tank, the light will come on around 80-100 miles and I know I really need to put gas around 120. You can probably push 150 miles out of a tank but it’s not worth risking it.

The open airbox lid did not improve my erratic idle below 5k rpms
