Damaged sterring lock

I guess that is what I get for parking the bike outside, I've only got room for the SP in the garage so the 821 has been outside for the last week as I'm using it as my daily. I hadn't noticed until I let a friend borrow the bike yesterday and he asked why the handlebars didn't lock firmly. Looks like someone was trying to break the steering lock and there is quite a bit of play now in the locked position.

Anyone have an idea on what it would take to repair this? I am planning to sell it soon (need to update the starter to see if that clears a CEL first) and debating whether I try to fix this or just give someone a really good deal.

That was a known issue on these bikes. Not sure when/if they fixed it, but the steering lock only engaged the fork crown by about 1mm so it was easy to force it even accidentally and muck it up.

Got it. Guess I'll leave it as is and knock some $$ of the selling price then. It's possible it wasn't even a thief, could have been damaged when the bike was knocked over a while back since I never really check that the steering is locked after I've parked.
