Just got home from New Brunswick 14 hour day took new bike off trailer to show off DEAD 12km , Wife wanted to cry me to . The BMW I gave them will start for 100 years . All winter I waited for this dreamed about it last nite . I'm lost in disappointment I will never trust it and will always hate it . Ffff Ducati

Awe man, you never want to have to trouble shoot a brand new machine! Bummer.

You had a long hard day, hang in there, probably a simple overlook when setup.

My wife bought a new car couple of years ago, come home. Go out the next morning all dressed up to go to work, NOTHING. Battery dead. This thing can do nothing without a battery, finally got it in neutral so I could push it out from the shed to open the hood.

Turns out bad batch of batterys, narry a problem since.

Hope yours turns out to be just as easy.

My bike also died after 50 miles, a quick fix by the dealer and ive already put 580 miles and couldnt be happier!! Hang in there and i really hope you get it fixed quick. ITS REALLY WORTH IT!! ;)

Mibanez3 Did they ever say what was wrong with it? I remember they reflashed the ECU but that was all...

The california evaporation emission system (charcoal canister) was creating too much vacuum and the dealer removed it along with a ECU reset.

Mine is still attached, but I have scouted out the vent hose, and if it tries to strand me tomorrow, I will vent with tank cap, if that cures, then it will be gone.

hey Zeke, I'm going to the same dealer you bought yours tomorrow to pick my Strada up. Do they know about your problems and how they were fixed? I want to drive mine back to SJ and i really don't want to be left stranded.

My dealer told me one of the problems with the carbon canister is if you over fill the tank and fuel runs down the over flow it goes into the canister. When you start the bike it sucks up that fuel and floods the engine. Ends up making it real hard to start.

R6Chase yours must be the white one there, it looks great red or white. They want me to get it to Halifax 5 Hour round trip for me on Tue 7 May . No they have no idea what's wrong. They sold my BMW already and they have my bucks. The stupid thing is I lov this thing we all now how that is . They will go from Halifax to Moncton with no idea when Ill see it again.

Stratashere I just put mine on trailer they filled it I never got the chance to empty it ! every time Dealers Cars Or Bike try to lay it at our feet. YOUR DEALER IS WRITE ABOUT PROBLEM BUT THE GUY WHO BOUGHT IT HAS NOTHIG TO DO WITH IT

Well we have had problems with the F650's but its usually a battery connection or just bad battery.
Good luck!

Zeke
There is a fuse box under the left side cover clipped to the frame. Did you check those fuses? Page 227 & 228 in your owners manual lists what they are for. Looks like they cover key positions, injection, lights and instrument panel. There is another fuse block under the seat too.

Did you try with kickstand up, another words rule out the kickstand switch?

Maybe cycle the kill switch all the way down and up? Just wish you could discover the fix without having to drive a long distance. My dealer is about 3-1/2 hours one way, not a fun trip.

Lets figure this out

so:
1. Don't overfill tank with CA emissions junk box intact

If you do overfill and engine won't turn over:
2. Disconnect battery
3. (and/or) Pull fuse(s) # ?
4. Allow stupid canister vent line to dry out
5. Reconnect battery/fuses, drive to nearest dealer, get stupid emissions system removed immediately.

This isn't a proven checklist but I think it would really help out all us members with new bikes on the way to nail something of a procedure down so we don't have anyone getting stranded on their maiden ride.

Thanks for all advice my tank was 2 or 3 " below anything that even looked like full.No doubt it's a venting problem, when you open gas cap the fumes are really strong.I've never had anything even a jerrycan smell like that try it! They should have vented off the cap and hinged it but that would have costed them $1.50.It been 5 days with at least 7 more to go I'm not goin to talk about it any more you guys are sick of my Bellyaching. Posting photo to new photo thread the red ones a good paperweight ha!

My first stop to get fuel, I tried to top it off, and overflowed over the tank, dang it. I go running for a towel or rag, nothing. It does overflow real easy, but I had no problem cranking or running.

Zeke you could take pictures close up of your bike and various setups, we could have a contest to see who can diagnose the problem.
