"Error" and all dash lights flashing, Fan Turns on, No Start...

Pedro, can't speak for The Outback, but the update for US spec Strada's was very nice. Smoothed out the motor at low rpm cruise, especially in lower gears at slow speeds. Some of us were having stalls during downshifts at speed and I haven't had this since. I also had a couple limp mode situations that this solved. There was something advertised about the dash backlighting but I didn't notice the update.

I had the same problems.

So 1 / 1000...........??

I have had all the update's but also all the problems.......!!

Same here! I actually became good friends with my salesman, so I called him up the other day to catch (since moving from St.Louis) and gave him an update on my bike. The only reason I did that is because when my buddy bought his Monster from him I explained my concern about Ducati's reliability; only because I owned an S2R Monster back in the day and my buddy had an older Hyper that both had issues with reliability. His Hyper, more- so than the Monster. But fast forward a few years"¦.And he insured me that Ducati ironed out any reliability issue"¦...:roll eyes:

So it figures that I would have these issues. But, Ducati is saying 1/1000 bikes; And they only sold 43,000 units world wide last year. With that, last year they posted that the Hyper aren't exactly their "top-sellers""¦..

Just estimating here, but by 9mo, all Hypers and Multi's made up 11k sales, with a majority being the Multistrada. So even is that trend continued, they sold perhaps 7,000 Hypers last year, meaning that only 7 had these issue, and 3-4 of those folks are on this forum and 4+ more on Ducati.ms"¦.

I think Ducati is fudging the truth on "1/1000""¦.

The good news, our bikes are still very unique when you look at the sales numbers! (Which probably explains why everyone wants to ask questions when I pull up somewhere) The down side"¦.reliability still needs a little work (IMO)

My bike is turning 1 soon; let's hope 2014 is a better year for it. Or, I will be jumping brands next year.

Yesterday it was my turn to get this problem.

The DTC light, the ABS light, Blinker lights, the dash went blank, then started flashing "errors" across it, none of me trip/odometer information showed, no engine temp reading, and lastly, the engine cooling fan was running.

The error code is "Dashboard and Engine",

And the bike season has just began.........

Today (after a week) I had a call from my dealer.

Coil has burned and is now in short circuit.

The dealer will order and replace dashboard, ecu, and coils.

To everyone: is it just the front coil?

Is it possible there has been water intrusion causing a short and burn?

burned coil ..

I just got the bike after repair,
Dashboard, coils, ecu. following the procedure instructions given by ducati.
I think that since ducati is asking to replace both coils that the problem isn't specific to the front coil, but by the coil structure itself. I suppose that the coils are replaced by an upgraded version

About front wheel shaking while brake is applied, and mostly at low speed, please check if gap exist at steering column.
On mine it was possible to see this default, while pushing hardly on the handlebars while applying the front brake.
The steering head upper bearing seal service note will be the perfect occasion to have this verified and fixed.
I just got the steering special upper bolt tightened, and vibrations just diseapeared.
Do not try to perform the adjustment by yourself, unless you know exactly the procedure and own all the required special tools.

Have fun, i just forgot all previous disagrements after the first km...

The bike has now been in the workshop for more than 3 weeks.
Coils and dashboard has arrived, but ecu is still missing. Backorder listed by Ducati. Wonder why?

I was just riding along today and suddenly lost power...the engine light came on, then everything went back to normal. I'm hoping this isnt a sign...

Sounds like this is what's going on with mine. 3rd or 4th startup after winter storage w/ trickle charger. Hoping to get bike into dealer/shop this week.
Thanks for the posts/info!

Following up on myself;

Took it into the dealer today to read the codes, and sure enough it was a short on the front ignition coil. They reset the codes as everything looked normal again. Has me worried though....

I wrote an email to Ducati expressing my concern of my problem being a precursor to the bike going all Christmas, and how that makes me worried. They actually phoned me back today (was surprising to see a call form Bologna on my call display!), and they said they will be looking into the issue, and have opened a case with Ducati North America to review my concern.

When I get a response I will let everyone know what is said. In the mean time, I'm impressed that the factory in Italy called me up, and didn't just forward it to a local sales rep! It appears at this point that they do care about their reputation for making quality bikes.

Email adress to Ducati?

The continuing saga:

Taking my bike in today as the engine did the same stutter again. However, in calling the dealer they said that there is another Hyper in there right now for the full major issue identified in this thread, and they had one last year.

This is appearing to be less and less a random issue...

Bike repaired and back in my garage. :)
Coils, dashboard and ECU changed

I did some statistic about this problem and some other problems that you have reported on this forum.

Good work.....?!

My bike has also an starting problem when it is cold after a night sleep
It is not that the bike won't start, it always start, but not in an normal way, it almost explods most of the times.

With all the problems reported, I'm a bit concerned about just what is the root cause. In my case, the dealer reported the root cause was the wiring harness was getting pinched which in turn caused electrical problems and as a result they replaced the ECU, BBS, dash, coils, etc. that made sense to me. In many other reports of problems, owners are reporting the dealer replacing some of these parts but not others and I'm not hearing of the wiring harness being replaced. So what is the root cause of these problems? Are replacements of just coils or ECU, etc just replacing a victim of the root cause and not solving the real underlying problem or...?
