With all the problems reported, I'm a bit concerned about just what is the root cause. In my case, the dealer reported the root cause was the wiring harness was getting pinched which in turn caused electrical problems and as a result they replaced the ECU, BBS, dash, coils, etc. that made sense to me. In many other reports of problems, owners are reporting the dealer replacing some of these parts but not others and I'm not hearing of the wiring harness being replaced. So what is the root cause of these problems? Are replacements of just coils or ECU, etc just replacing a victim of the root cause and not solving the real underlying problem or...?

I agree, it seems very suspect. Based on what I was told, it was caused by a firmware issue. I can only suspect that any damage it caused was in place when mine died (post-ECU update). That being said, there are people here who have issues at less than 1000km, and those who are fine until 12,000km.

I guess we will need to see if anybody with a 2014 bike (latest firmware from 0km) has an issue. If not, then whatever the issue is fixed.

Waiting on parts...

A few other folks mentioned 2+ weeks waiting for parts. I'm starting week 4 so if others are running into this issue now, heads up on it maybe taking awhile to get your bike fixed.

On recommendation of dealer, I contacted Ducati yesterday (Ducati). Will hopefully get a response... soon.

Bike repaired and back in my garage. :)
Coils, dashboard and ECU changed

I did some statistic about this problem and some other problems that you have reported on this forum.

I wonder if we can capture serial number data on this as well, to find out if there is a problem with a specific model run. Specifically with the "error" that leads to coils.

For example, my bike is in the 500-1000 range (dont want to be too specific), and another member who I met recently with this issue was only +5 on the VIN from mine, so that is 2 bikes in under 1000 manufactured with the coils issue.

I wonder if there is a point at which it stops happening...

I received a call from Ducati-Italy an hour ago. Apologies were offered for the problem and with the parts delay. I was told to expect a call from Ducati-North America within 3 or 4 biz days with an update on parts delivery.

You will probably get an email with apologies and nothing more.

Submitting to Customer Service or serendipity?... no call from Ducati-North America but dealer called today to say the bike is set. They got the ignition coils yesterday (they already had the dashboard).

If I get any info on the suspected cause of the issue I'll be sure to share.

wonder any of our friends that got their HS from Ducati Thailand (for Asia Oceana market) have this sort of problem? pls do share..tq

~5150km/3200miles

Seems root cause is still unknown but a short is occurring and the resulting spike damages the coils. Ducati mechanic said replacement coils are supposed to be better insulated.

I picked my Thai Hyper up exactly a month ago and have been riding 1,200 kms.

So far I have had no problems at all.

Flashing ECU issue

So the flashing dashboard issue happened this morning to me, same symptoms as described here on this thread: engine light, neutral light, oil light flashing, RPM bar flashing, engine temp just three dashes(---) flashing, ABS and TC randomly displaying or showing dashes, engine fan ON, rear break light flashing together with read indicators.

As I haven't seen this thread this morning when the issue happened my first thought was that yesterday drive in the rain has caused some electric short-cut. Called Ducati Snell and they recommended to let the bike dry on sun - left whole day, but same issue in the evening. One thing I noticed was that in the morning the ERROR tab was displaying all sorts of different problems: Engine, Dash, this evening its just CAN Line. also the bike wont start (which did in the morning).

So I booked Ducati Assistance pickup for tomorrow morning, emailed Ducati Customer Service with the explanation for root cause of this issue and also to confirm parts availability for UK. This is mostly annoying as: 1. weather is superb! 2. my second bike Ktm Supermoto is broken down with starter issue! Back to public transportation I guess!.

Bike is from May 2013, 6500miles on the clock. Recalls done: steering seal installed, Ducati confirmed no other recalls needed to be done on my bike (they checked over the phone against VIN).

Will keep you posted but knowing the quality of London's Ducati garages (they have thousands of customers so couple of unhappy ones are no big deal), I am actually scared what will happen.

I am hoping to get the bike back on the road before end of July for Ducati TrackDay on Silverstone :/

Well, I gave up on this bike! 2 weeks in the shop (making 3 total this year), and looking at 2 more at least. Coils/dash/ecu replaced, and moving on to the injectors, bypass valve (which actually means throttle bodies) and harness. DNA has no idea at all what is wrong with it. I got a dud, a lemon, but no law exists to assist me where I am, so I have traded it in. Now rocking a Kawasaki, a brand I have put 200,000 problem free kilometers on with previous bikes.

So long, Ducati. It was fun between visits to the shop.

That's a real bummer, phreak. Come to think of it, I never got a lemon law booklet with my purchase...

In Canada there are absolutely NO lemon laws. There is an arbitration system, operated by the manufacturers, but it is a voluntary membership, and only 4 manufacturers are on it, all cars.
