Headlight re-wiring ( 2013 796 Ducati monster )

Hi gang,

So I purchased a aftermarket headlight and noticed it had the wrong adapter. From there I decided to cut the adapters on both ends and now find myself lost after a few blind attempts. Can anyone assist ?!

The aftermarket light once snipped has 3 wires ( blue, grey and black )
There are also 3 separate wires ( white, red, and yellow )
NOTE: the headlamp has built in signal lights integrated into it

The connector from the bike once snipped has 4 wires ( white, black w/ yellow strip, yellow, and what looks to be another yellow.

to add to that, I have signal lights at the end of the handle bars that are already connected and functioning well.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

On the HS it is not very clear how it is wired, internally, but from the circuit diagram.
1 Yellow/ White - to instrument panel Low beam
2 Yellow/ Green- to instrument panel High beam
3 Yellow - goes to tail light/ number plate light & immobiliser ( I guess +12v when ignition on, for sidelights)
4 Black - negative.

Bike-
(On the HS -key in/ on brings on sidelights (DRL's). Engine on brings low/ high beam [can someone confirm - I'm riding my desk now!])

I would put voltmeter to bike, with the -ve side to black. Check for +12V on the wires. Ignition on -check for +12V.
Engine on -test for +12v on wires with low beam and high beam selected from switch.

-----
If I had to make a wild guess at the replacement light, something like-
black - negative
yellow/ blue - indicators
white/ red - low/ high beam
grey - sidelights.(?)

Its a fair guess that black is negative. Try +12v on the others of the new light to check which is which.

Take my advise with caution, as I can talk rubbish sometime, like many on the internet.

Afterthought-
That's advice not advise.
Caution always, but nothing I said should do any damage.
My guessed colours could be out of synch. looking at the spade connectors on Y W R.
If -ve to black and +12V to colours don't light anything, then -ve must be a different colour.
I said 'Immobiliser' - more like ignition switch - the two are together on the circuit diagram.

Appreciate the reply

From looking at this diagram below. I was thinking Black to signal lights wires being the thin red and yellow ones(headlight), this white unsure (headlight)

I'm reading the blue is high beam, the grey is low beam and the black is negative (headlight)

(below: left side is bike)
Black to yellow and red signal light wires

Yellow to headlight negative(black)

White to headlight highbeam(blue)

Yellow/brown goes to "push" switch (Titled PASSING). wondering if the white goes there as neutral on constant. haven't confirmed white yet though

Thoughts !

Looks like the wires into the existing headlight are-
Yellow Brown is high beam from (Title DIMMER) and (PASSING (aka flash the high beam))
White is low beam from (Title DIMMER)
Yellow is side(on constant) and parking light from (02 ignition switch)
Black is negative on all lights.

Is this from the new unit?-
"I'm reading the blue is high beam, the grey is low beam and the black is negative (headlight)"

So Yellow, red, white, I would say, are the 2 indicators and 1 side/ park light and use the same black Negative.

Reckon?

ok here's the update. I made progress yet don't think im at the finish line. all seem to be working expect the day light(headlight). I only turns on from the push switch. High beam does the same when switched up to high beam option.

here's what I have:

New headlight has Blue, Grey, and Black ( with three separate wires Red, Yellow, White )

Headlight Bike
Black to Black
Grey to White
Blue. to Yellow/Blue

Separate wires:

Headlight Bike
Yellow Right turn signal
Red Left turn signal
White Yellow ( day light )

Headlight has integrated signal lights built in 7" lamp

All work but the constant on the day light. Doe it only turn on when bike is running ? Just bought it last week being my first Duc.

Good to see progress.

"All work but the constant on the day light. Does it only turn on when bike is running ? "

Mmmmaybe. Probably. (I can't remember on the HStrada!)

Looking at (02) on the diagram - the Ignition switch
In the PARK position, it connects a Red wire to the Yellow wire that goes to the day light.
In the ON position, it connects an Orange wire to it.

I don't know what makes that Orange +12V - It could be from engine running

Did you test it with the key in the park position?

I took it for a ride today. DRL doesn't turn on and that includes the DRL on the rear light. I'll have a closer look at the diagram tomorrow. appreciate the reply's
