Installing Aprilia (Eldor) Coil Packs on Hypermotard/Hyperstrada

Alright I’ll do that then thanks!

Hey, did you tried to start it up pushing/running the bike on 2nd gear?

It would show you if the issue was the start engine.

Also you could take a look on the installation of coils, maybe you have lack of contacts, something like this...

Well I tried at the end of last season but it was so cold I couldn’t get the rear wheel to hook up, but yeah i’ll definitely try that too

Hello everyone, I am new to the forum. I am the owner of a 2014 hypermotard I read the posts with curiosity and I want to make the change and I was wondering according to you, by changing the coils I also have to install the dashboard filter?? do the coils protect all parts of the bike or just the ecu? Thank you

My understanding is that the coils eliminate the root cause of the issue so if they are done then the filter is not required.

I did the Eldor coil swap recently (thanks to all the help from this thread) with zero issues.

My bike did have prior starter issues, independent from the ignition coils. The 821s come with a starter that will eventually fail to start the bike when it’s hot. I had mine replaced with a Denso unit and haven’t had a problem since. If that sounds like your issue there’s info on this forum that can help.

Hi, sorry if this reply not applicable or suitable to this eldor coil pack installation thread.

I bought my bike four months ago.

2014 Ducati Hyperstrada 821 with millage 36+++km

4 days ago, while riding the bike. Instrument panel suddenly blackout (totally no indication at all, similar condition while ignition key is off).

The bike running normal no jerking or abnormal throttle respond & able to speed up/down normal.

Some observation was, the head lamp turn off, signal lamp not functioning, brake lamp not functioning.

When I stop & switch off ignition key. Upon switching on the key, instrument penal still blackout, exhaust valve, throttle & main relay still giving normal noise.

Then I tried to start, unfortunately bike not cranking.

Today, I read forum tech thread about Eldor coil plug installation (for fixing the issue of fried instrument panel & ECU cause by voltage spike resulted from Beru coil plug). Immediately I bought pair of long lead used Aprilia RSV4 Eldor coil plug set.

I start troubleshooting my bike starting with checking the fuse.

Found out, fuse no 2 for instrument panel is blown.

I suspect this might be related to the issue of Beru coil plug voltage spike issue.

My question;

Before I replace my coil plug to Eldor, is it safe if I replace the blown fuse & start the bike?

Or shall I wait until I receive the Eldor coil plug, install it & only start the bike?

If I replace the blown fuse & then only switching on the key (without starting the bike) is it safe?

Thanks

Well, at least you found the culprit! I think I'd try just replacing that fuse to see what happens. Hopefully the worst is it will blow again and then you'll know there's a big problem somewhere. The coill transplant is a very wise move whatever.

I replace the blown fuse & tried switching on the key.

Thank to god, my instrument panel back to live without any errors.

I'm scare to start the bike. Already ordered 2 pcs of used Eldor coil plug long leas type from Aprilia RSV4.

Hopefully by day after tomorrow next I'll receive it.

Once I swap to that Eldor coil plug, I will give a try to start the bike.

Successfully swap to Aprilia RSV4 Eldor coil plug & successfully restart the bike. Unfortunately, the same fuse blown & instrument panel blackout again upon pressing the high beam switch.

The main culprit of this problem identified: faulty head lamp bulb.

I believe the headlamp's high beam element causing high current & thus fuse no 2 for instrument panel blown.

If the headlamp having its own fuse this issue would not happened.

Anyway because of this problem, had made me swap to eldor coil. At least I can sleep peacefully without having to worry about burning ecu/instrument panel anymore.

Thanks to Dragoontwo for making this usefull thread.

I made a Facebook post with detailed video with self explanation wording about this problem on Ducati Hypermotard Owners Club Facebook group. The link is here;

Thank you.

Glad to hear you got to the cause of the problem, and the coil change is a very good move. Now I'd suggest you replace that burnt-out bulb with a good LED one that will give more light for less current!

Yup, I plan to change LED.

Hello guys, I have recently joined the club of fried HS ECUs in 2013 bike. So the bike had already the SRV-TSB-16-006 campaign for CAN filter with previous owner, but probably there was no replacement of ignition coil. I started to look for new ECU by posting search offers on marketplace and I have been texted by fellow from Vietnam. What he is saying is that the ELDOR IGNITION COIL for DUCATI 848/1098 should also solve the issue permanently and it is just plug and play. Anyone can confirm this? Secondly he has offered an repair of my ECU in Vietnam for around 130 $ plus shipment. Do you have any experience with this kind of practise? I have also found a replacement for my ECU the only thing which worries me is that the part number given by DUCATI service is 28642301A , and the ECU which I have found has PN 28642271A, although it is taken out from hyperstarda. Might it be an issue?

Do you have this guy’s contact info?

In relation to changing the coils, could you post a picture after they're installed? I noticed that their length seems to be longer, and I will need to replace mine as well. If you could post a picture of the model you used, I'd really appreciate it. I live in Brazil, and it's quite difficult to find these ignition coils here.

Thank you.

this is because the switch from low beam to high beam is electronic, it is controlled by dash panel, so the fuse must to be the same, it is not necessary to have another one just to lamp..

I did. Actually, still have. When the bile is hot it cost a bit more to start, but no problems to start, at all... just a bit longer
Probably several causes for poor hot-starting, but one we know of is the power draw caused by a failing starter motor. The later Denso starters are much better engineered.
