Installing Aprilia (Eldor) Coil Packs on Hypermotard/Hyperstrada

I remember noticing a slight difference in the length, but a firm push had them fitting to the plugs very snugly. Only mod for me was the termination, and I simply attached the Ducati male terminal blocks with care.

Same on un-modified RSV-4 coils. Just be sure they will seat flush with a firm push. Allen bolt will crank them down with no fuss.

Thanks for the replies guys, the coils seem to fit pretty well without adjustments.

This whole incident gave me the chance to finally replace the air filter, plugs and a new paintjob which I been prolonging. When everything is assembled the bike should feel and look like new..

And most of all problem free!

I did this change as well for preventative measures. It's hard to tell your Ducati dealer to fix these issues when you find out about them online. Usually, my Duc dealer will say, that's not a problem on the Japanese spec. Or they have never heard of the problem before. So I just did the eldor coil change myself. From an Aprilla. It was easy and only need to add the ducati connector. Cord length was a little bit short but it worked fine.

Hi guys

New to this thread because of a coil problem. yesterday i blew my dash on my hypermotard 821 sp '2013. Engine was still running.
Recal mod canbus-filter was done in 2019 and since then no problems.
Went to the dealer and they replaced the can filter. That had no solution.
I have ordered a new dash and new coils.

Are the BERU coils the same as the original or are the modified to prevent fried dash or ecu? Part number i have ordered is: 38010145B
I hope that beru had designed new coils to slove these issues? Or is the blow out with new beru coils still a big hazzard?

I cant find the eldor coils around here in Europe. Would love to buy them with pre-installed ducati connectors.

Bike has 14000 miles on it and i assume the coils are never replaced

Please advise what to do

Sorry to hear of your problem. I've no idea whether the latest BERU coils are different from the old ones, but I'll bet they are expensive and personally I wouldn't trust them! If you go for used eldor ones, there are several sets from V4 Aprilias on ebay/uk ranging from £40 to £100, and various single units too. It isn't likely you'll find them with ducati connectors, but it's very easy to swap them over.

I switched my hyper harness ends to these ends. It was easier to find the Aprilia weather pack ends than the Ducati ends plus this is a whole array of connectors that I will for sure use in the future

as far as I know, the recall only allows the CAN filter install and does not allow for a full coil replacement. Also, there have been members who still had the issues after the CAN filter service and Ihave not seen any members report issues after installing the eldor coil packs.
i had the filter installed by dealer in 2019 and blew out the dash 2 days ago. filter os no guarantee. it is the most cheap solution for ducati to fix this problem..$15 filter vs 2 new coils

Thank you for your answer. I will sort out what is the garage about to change now. Maybe the procedure changed during the time to avoid more goodwill fixes by DUCATI. Does anyone have the new BERU ignition coil installed by DUCATI?
how do you recognize the new beru coil?

today i replaced the coils and the dash..still same problem. bike is running but dash is flashing. probably not a burned out dashboard then. I don't know what to do....tomorrow calling the dealer again

Someone here(or mabye it was the .Ms group) found a broken wire at the harness from the frame to the forks, others found a broken wire that under the left tank cover at the fuse block. I would unplug the dash and plug it back in. Then I would start it and wiggle sections of the harness.

Hey dragoontwo, I just finished the Eldor coil swap on my 2013 Hypermotard and I wanted to thank you for this post that helped guide me so well. The whole process took me a lot longer than it should've but that's my fault. The first hiccup was making a mess of my crimps (didn't have a crimp tool, had never crimped anything before) and having to wait on new pin connectors as I had ruined mine. Once I had new connectors and a brand new crimp tool, it was fairly smooth sailing. I also used Araitim's detailed photo write-up for removing the fairings and the tank (Starace RSR velocity stacks 821/939 install) which I also found extremely helpful. While I had everything apart, I also put on new farkles and a new HP Corse EvoXtreme high mount exhaust. I lost about 4 hours of time when I somehow managed to lose an exhaust bolt INSIDE of the swingarm...but with a quick trip to Canadian Tire for some magnets and the help of my wife's dainty fingers, I was able to recover it. I was worried about riding the bike after reading so much about this issue and am glad I can put it behind me. Thanks again!

Hi new to the forum, have recently purchased a 2014 hypermotard and looking to do the coil swap, has anyone used the 848/1198 coils as mentioned a few pages ago? As would rather go this route than doing wiring if they work, thanks.

I'm going to do the coil swap too. I bought a set of 4 coils from a 2017 Aprilia Tuono V4.
Only question I have; isn't it easier to just slice off the Ducati connectors from the old Beru coils and simply solder them to the Elder coils?

Yes! Buying the Aprilia coils is probably cheaper and easier than the Ducati ones (of course, you might get lucky), but it was very simple to splice the Ducati connectors onto the Aprilia cables, rather than changing the connector blocks. On advice from here, I also fitted a cheap ferrite choke close to the coils in the interests of damping any unwanted electromagnetic radiation. No change in performance on my HS but definitely enhanced peace of mind!

Thanks for the great info in this post, just ordered a set. Do you have to remove the airbox to get to the front coil? Thinking of installing the Starace velocity stacks while I am in there but the airbox removal looks like a huge pain.

The coil is actually in the stick that fits over the spark plug. If you can access the spark plug, you'll have the coil in hand! Then, all you have to do is trace the cable back to a junction block. Both are, I seem to remember, pretty easy to locate without taking anything else off. Certainly, I didn't go near the airbox.
