Heated grip connectors

Hey Everyone. This question is for anyone who has a set of heated grips that are not yet installed, or someone that would be willing to dig back into their headlights and photograph the connectors.

After deciding the Ducati branded grips are way too expensive for a wear item, I was planning on fitting aftermarket heaters that match the wattage so I can enable them the same way factory ones would be. Since I do not want to modify the factory wiring harness, I was hoping someone would be able to shed some light on what the factory connectors look like on the grip end. I'd hope to be able to find some to buy elsewhere that would be compatible, as the local dealer is being less than helpful in this scenario. If someone here would be able to provide these photos, I'd be very grateful. Thanks!

Thank you Jlaf for the help! I saw your photo in the thread you linked to. I was unaware there was already a male end in there to prevent dust. This makes my install a whole lot easier. Cheers!

Hi,

What aftermarket grip did you buy? I am not sure of the wattage for the Ducati grips. Also, another thread talks about the spring rate on the grips. Did you run into the same issue?

Thanks!

Martin

Hi Martin,

I've got about 2000 miles so far on my bike with the Oxford heated grips, and I've been using them every chance I get. So far no issues at all. From all the comparisons I've seen, they are very close in wattage to the Ducati heated grips.

As for the spring rate, I'm not quite sure what you're referring to. If you mean the throttle return spring, I had that recall done prior to fitment of my grips, and the throttle/spring isn't affected in any way with the heated grips. I will say though, that the ridges that are on the stock throttle tube will need to be filed/sanded off. Easily done with a small hand file. Hope this helps!

monocog007, I think i was confused...

Did you buy the replacement grips and then the connectors? What connectors did you purchase? I'm hovering with finger over the button to purchase the grips. :)

Thanks!

Martin

The connectors are already on the bike! I didn't expect it either, but it's pretty awesome. With some simple solder and heatshrink skills, it's a cakewalk install. I attached an image of what they look like, courtesy of Jlaf.

Did you have to take your bike back to Ducati to have them turned on?

I had them turned on prior to installing the grips (same time I had them reset my service light, cost me all of $20), that way they wouldn't hassle me with the aftermarket ones. Just tell them you have the factory ones on order and want to get them turned on right away.

My dealer would not activate my heated grips today when i was getting the ecu reprogrammed. Told me alot of bull that you can only turn them on with grips fitted and then told me i would need a tps reset after fitting grips. They are happy to fit oxford grips for £75 plus £80 for grips.

Hahaha... Sounds to me like it's time to find a new dealer. Granted when I had mine turned on, my grips were hidden underneath some grip covers, they can be turned on regardless of whether or not they are installed.

Mine cost $20 to get turned on (and also to reset the service indicator).

That £75 sounds like just a little more than the 1/2hr shop rate I had to pay.

I paid $80 CAN for the full Oxford grip set. I had another use for the temperature controller. Others here have just bought the grips only for about $20 each piece. If you let the dealer do it, make sure you're not paying for the Oxford controller. You bike has a built in controller.
