Today I received my much anticipated high flow intake from Giuseppe Starace in Italy. A little backround on Giuseppe, he used to be a n engineer for the factory ducati race team. He came up with this new air filter housing that he makes by hand 1 at a time at his shop in Italy. I am told that much research and testing went into these and there are graphs and whatnot floating around as to how it performs. I am a HUGE fan for pieces like this, small company making pieces in house/by hand. These are made to order and I ordered mine about 4 weeks ago. Just my luck, the Italian postal service went on strike for 2 weeks(Giuseppe was in co tact with me throughout the whole process). I am impressed with the visible surface build quality. Usually, from my experience, land made carbon fiber pieces are wavy and pitted, not this one. Everything is included, right down to a fuzzy strap to support the wire harness. I am surprised howmuch it takes to get to the air filter on these bikes. I wish I had known that the 2 bolts on the rectifier did t need to come out to take the rectifier out. I learned that you just need to unplug and slide the whole tray twards you. There is an hour I will never get back. LOL

thats a sweet looking piece. it probably costs a million lire. lol

$160 American. Shipped. It doesn't come with an air filter though. But when you factor in that you can no longer get the larger intake replacement piece from whomever was making them and the only other option is to cut a big hole in your air box directly above the rear cylinder throttle body, I figured i would go for it. Plus, im a guy who loves hand make pieces from small businesses.

The corse intake with a mwr filter is pretty consistently on ebay these days for $100 ish

My corse intake cost me $15. But this is definitely a wider opening and it's beautifully crafted. Too bad it's gonna live hidden under the gas tank, that thing is a work of art.

How's it seal around the edge of the opening in the airbox?

Included in the kit is a adhesive foam that attached to the perimeter of the carbon fiber piece. I was conserned with sealing at first(before I mounted everything) but once it is all tightened down it looks Like there is a solid seal all the way around. One thing that I didn't realize, I looked at the shipping receipt and it cost him 40 euros to ship it from Italy to Michigan.

Where in Italy is his shop located? I'm moving to Naples soon. Guessing just over $100 if I pick up in store?

Airbox access is a nightmare. I went with MWR as the Corse piece was harder to find than unicorn sperm - went to dozens of Duc performance sites with no luck. Luckily I did the filter mod with 9K service but I still get indigestion thinking about pulling the tank again.

You really think it's that bad? I've done it 15+ times. I have it down to half an hour to remove and about 45 to install.

There are a few tricks to making the fuel tank easier to pull. Once you know those tricks it's not hard, but still something I hate doing. You gotta pull off all the plastics, it's just a pain in the ***.

The air filter cover looks nice. Kind of extreme but I appreciate the craftsmanship. That guy put a lot of work into those parts. I have forgotten what it was like to ride the bike with the stock intake but I recall gaining a nice little boost and certainly extra noise when putting the bigger intake and tuning the engine.

This is my first time I have ever cracking into the hyper. I am mechanically inclined, having built numerous motors, bore n stroke, my own port n polish work with flow testing over the years, trans gear swapping etc. It is definitly tricky getting these parts out efficiently the first time. LOL. I lost alot of time to that damn rectifier. I even turned down an allen wrench on the lathe to make it a long thin swivel. I definitly see a way to disassemble it more efficiently in the future. Is there a sticky thread that covers dismantle tricks n tips, that would be helpful to people new to the hyper like myself.

I did the air filter change this past spring when I replaced the clutch cable. Ya the rectifier was a major pain. Very time consuming since I first removed the mounting hardware for the rectifier. Pulling the tank was not to bad.

Does he have a site I can order it from. I'm not on Facebook and won't be. Any pointers on where to get the filter would be most welcome as well. I'm at 7K now, so pulling the tank isn't that far off now. Thanx in advance...

I didn't have to remove the rectifier, but reaching that buried torx was a fudge and a pain - but it can be done.

I defininetly seen easier ways to do this in the future. That whole rectifier assembly is on rubber isolators and slides twards you to pop off. The side panels I also had trouble with. The single bolt isolator that needs to be slotted into the oval flange(I don't feel I'm explaining it correctly). Do you have any tips or tricks to get that back together?

Sent Giuseppe money months ago, asked for my address, reached out to him several times now, nothing...Anyone know this guy, I'm beginning to think the worst...
