Hyper-Disaster: Triptus Interruptus

ALL motorcycles are light years ahead of those that caused the reputations expressed here. From metallurgy to international component manufacturing, motorcycles aren't from any single country anymore.

I've had more issues with Honda than my Ducati because the Ducati is manufactured with the latest in component design. Heck, it's a VW. In hundreds of thousands of miles of riding, the only bike that left me stranded was a Honda.

I clearly recall the Gold Wing frame failures. Same with a recent generation of Connie.

The 821 engine was designed for reliable and long service life. That's why it weighs as much as it does.

The Canbus issue is a bit strange, but one that was solved under warranty. I have experienced how Ducati helps out even when the bike is out of warranty. Great guys.

The generation of Japanese with the work ethic recounted here is retired and passing away. Now Japan is switching to robots, importing foreign workers and outsourcing to other countries component production. How do I know this? I regularly watch NHK World TV and see what is going on today. I find it critical to be aware of Asian news, from an Asian perspective.

there you go again, the above post. Why do Italian bikes have such a reputation for unreliability? I'm sure there's the odd lemon in any make of bike but Italian bikes get the bad rap. I do remember an MV the other week not starting because it rained while he was in the cafe.... Ive never seen that before.....

It will be good to get the Hyperstrada back. Pretty much a new engine which will require a break-in period. I prefer the Motoman fast break-in to quickly seat the rings properly.

Je ne comprends pas.

Very few vehicles are single country sourced anymore. So much of Ducati motorcycles will be world sourced, with components coming from the same parts suppliers other motorcycle parts are sourced.

We would all be surprised at just how many motorcycle components start in China.

Most here are too young to remember Lucas - The Prince of Darkness - wiring on bikes. Heck, my Spanish Bultaco came with Lucas wiring. Times sure have changed since then. The days of having to carry a file for points, extra jets for carburetors, master link for broken chains, etc...

Nope, today bikes are reliable. Just like autos. Yes, there are exceptions to each.

Rings and Piston were not replaced ... for the money you'd have thought they would have! The Tech assured me the Piston/Rings were "as new".

But I did get all new Cams, Valves so yes, some break in ... which I've already done. So far, so good. I will watch for any smoke or oil use .... say my prayers and keep my fingers crossed. Plus one on Motoman method.
