hyperstrada large capacity fuel tank

I understand the RTW rider attraction to the dependable upgraded CB500X because getting the job done is paramount.

I also have considerable experience in backroad exploration across the Sierra Mountains and Nevada deserts with the GS. In fact a number of the original AdvRider guys came to such a ride with me. From the Comstock Lode to the Black Rock Desert and mountain backroad passages the GSs never let us down.

The Hyper series isn't an adventure bike. Different animal altogether. Like trying to make a Porsche Cayenne into a Range Rover Defender.

But then, I made a decision to purchase the Hyperstrada for what it is, not what it isn't.

I have to agree with you RSL, for me the Hyper is right in the middle of it, not enough hard core adventure bike, not enough super bike, not enough dirt bike, but damn it does a little of all the best of any bike out there. It holds its own on the canyon twisty's, it'll do track day duty, I keep up with sport bikes on the highway, if I have to take a dirt/gravel road or driveway it can do it. It puts out great power, I had a 01 gsxr 1000 and I could swear it felt sometimes like i hovered over the road when at speed, it pulled very hard, lots of power. I remember dirt or gravel or unpaved roads were scary at times, some speed bumps even uneven roadways were a challenge I really liked the gixer but it was single purpose. My Hyper replaced two bikes for me. Sure, if you want crazy power get a bigger bike, this bike has a very respectable power level in it's stock form, it's narrow design make it super maneuverable, I use the high compression as a brake when in traffic, turn in and out like a dirtbike, then blast off with really good torque slingshotting to highway speeds in seconds. well, here's a partial testimony. I'm lagging on my extra fuel holder, still coming soon.

I purchased the Hyperstrada instead of a KTM 690 with spare supermoto wheels because of the delightful engine. With the new Mupo suspension it will be a wonder on all my favorite California backroads. That said, I know that it is important to plan refueling options into the GPS. A very small price to pay for the gas tank that is below the seat allowing dirt bike riding style.

Adding extra fuel where the side cases connect would allow two or three times the refill maximum. Helpful for those wishing to cross even more remote areas.

I've had a GSA that was an ideal mule for carrying a lot of gas and way too much luggage. All without complaint. It's that that GSA was a fat pig. Nowhere near as fun on the tight twisty backroads I most enjoy riding.

There is no one bike that does everything as well as the GS. Proven by the sales numbers and what riders do, as seen on AdvRider.

That said the Hyperstrada is a master at the hooligan riding I find most enjoyable. It also does a darn fine job on easy forest service trails and roads with the skid plate and the exhaust protection I added.

As an old enduro guy, dual sport promoter, cross country sport tourer, and backroad explorer for over 46 years, I find the Hyperstrada to be exactly what I want right now.

Hope everyone here finds at least half the joy I get from the little Hyper.

Mount an AltRider tail rack which allows a RotopaX mount. Gives you a 1 or 1.75 gallon can option. That combined with the stock tank gives you pretty good range. The SW-Motech steel rack looks like it would work as well.
