Hyperstrada: making time with the speeders

Check out this link and look carefully at the bike situated back left. Looks like our favourite bike has no problem hanging out with crotch rockets. Also looks like a multistrada at the back right.

6 motorcycles nabbed for speeding on Sea to Sky Highway - British Columbia - CBC News

That said...doing 160 in an 80 zone??? No offence if the hyper rider who got nailed is one of us, but man, doubling the speed limit is not smart. The RCMP patrol that road like North Korea patrols its border, lol!!

My hyper gets pretty sketchy above 90 mph. If I change lanes or pin the throttle above this speed, I usually get a slow snaking-wobble that makes me back off. This is almost always with bags on and little weight in them. Still, I think a steering damper is in order.

I agree with the need for a steering a damper for any "spirited" riding. It looks like the 1100 Hypermotard items could fit with a spacer; anyone tried it or found any other suitable item?

Did anyone count the bikes in the picture? Lol. And yes I will be buying a damper, hopefully Ohlins makes one for us. I've noticed a very faint wobble in mine at higher speeds.

The bike between the HS and the MS isn't 1 of the 6...
2-3 meters is bs. The Tuono was easily 200 meters in front.
Never heard the police tell a lie before...

The HS cannot keep up with the Tuono or the CBR1000RR

Tip o the Day, watch your speed past Porteau Cove.

I had mine up to 135 mph during the track day I participated in. Did not notice any wobble or head shake, but I did not have the bags on either. Maybe the adrenalin had something to do with it:D.

I was reading a suspension troubleshooting thread and it said a lack of damping/rebound compression in front end can show as hyper-responsive steering at speed. My bars have featherlike sensitivity above 70 mph.

I have only been riding a few years but i have learnt the faster i go the less i hang on and me and the bike agree we wont do crazy **** like tank slap at 100.

I had the scotts dampner on the evo. Excellent piece of work. Waiting for them to release the version for hyperstrada

anybody have experience with both the Scott's headstock style and the pushrod Ohlins? Way, way back the Scott's was the one to have for my R6. I'm not the biggest fan of the giant damper sitting above the forks, either.

they both do the same job, personal preference really, if you listen to the experts they say the same, just horses for courses. one isn't better than the other.

What about a GPR stabilizer ? They make good stuff and I have felt a very light shake feeling at 100 mph and above.

Definitely thinking of adding a damper to mine. There was an older Hyper 1100 at my shop a couple of years ago with an Ohlins damper, and I actually thought it looked kind of trick with it.

On the subject of speed: yesterday, I was parked close to where two cops were doing traffic control, and they came over to chat about the bike. Really nice guys. After about 10 minutes, one of them said to me: "I'll bet it's pretty fast", to which I replied "so I hear" with a bit of a smile. They both laughed and said "good answer; have a great day".

Olins steering damper mounting kit available

Ducabike Hypermotard 821 SP Strada Steering Damper Mounting Kit for Ohlins | eBay

Recently I had a couple head shakes whilst accelerating really hard.
I'm going to fit a damper real soon. This kit should be good if you wanted to install traditional Ohlins type damper and also you'll find plenty of second hand dampers this type on flea bay.

EDIT: just ordered the fitting kit from Ducabike Italy, just need damper now and got a couple on ebay i'm watching ;-)

Nice work Mentalist.
Do you know the Ohlins model number to suit and did you order the Ducabike clamp or do you plan to use an Ohlins one?

Not sure of the Ohlins part No. but have got one lined up on fleabay at the moment with bracket already included, so will be able to adjust to suit. If I don't win the auction I have a few other irons in the fire with ducabike clamp and separate damper.
Just ordered some adjustable brake/clutch levers too from v-trek in Germany.
so I'll get them fitted too when i can, the distance to the levers for my hands is a little too far.
