Little trick
So, first time doing timing belts. Great instructions here. Thank you very much.
I have no special tools and I've never wrenched on a Duc before, but I'm not easily intimidated, so off I went.
Took the long route by the way, I wanted to get down into it, you know, get touchy feely for my own knowledge.
Anyway, going smoothly and have found a little tidbit. On the vertical intake cam, it does want to jump off the spring. I used the tank mounting screw, the long stainless one that goes through the rubber mounts, and buried it into the end of the cam. It's the right thread.
Because of the length, the 5mm allen wrench pretty much clears the frame. This let me control the bugger to get the belt on correctly. Then just backed it out.
By the way this is a 2014 and only 5k miles , doing this because of age only. They look ok, but the horizontal measured at 72 ish HZ, the vertical around 90. I figured it was a good call as the lower looked to be tired.
Happy riding and happy 4th for all us 'mericans!!!!
