Tip over

I had a tip over this past weekend and bent my brake peg. I snapped it off when trying to straighten it out. Can these pegs be removed? It appears to be fastened on with a very small Torx set screw ? If so,does anyone know what size Torx? My plan is to try and remove and replace with a Hammerhead tip . I believe the oem replacement cost for the brake control lever is $130. hammerhead is about $ 55.

Thanks for any input.

Mike

I had that happen too. I took the rubber off the peg and heated it with a small propane torch before I tried to bend it back. Mostly back to where it should be, but the whole lever is still tweaked and will probably snap if I press too hard or tip it over again.

That being said, I think the part that broke riveted on. Maybe it's best to drill through it? Then you can put something else on there.

Thanks for the reply. I can't tell if was riveted or fastened another way. I suppose I could try
Drilling it out.

Drilling it out, or maybe grinding it off and drilling the rest out, or if you have a dremel or something with a cutoff wheel, will let you have a lever with a hole in the end. Until you find a pedal tip you like you can put a bolt on it that's covered with a bit of rubber hose or a stack of rubber washers or grommets or something.

My gearshift and brake lever are both tweaked. I might get an aftermarket set that features replaceable tips but they're costly, at $450+

Thank you for that idea.I know, I can't get over how much some of these after market rear sets cost.

Unfortunately, it's one piece and a serious design flaw (or is it) on Ducati's part. I drilled mine out, set a nut and bolt with lock washers, then wrapped it in water proof tape. You couldn't tell the difference unless within a foot or so.

I don't think the full hammerhead arm works for the brake side.

I ended drilling it out, was hopping to mount a hammerhead tip but not sure. I thought I read a post from another user on this forum who did that. Not crazy about the idea of buying the oem part.

Thanks.

My Hammerhead shift lever and brake tip cost less than $200. See my thread on folding tip foot controls.

I snapped mine off b/c i was getting too low in a few corners & SNAP it went. It was actually pretty funny to me, b/c I was like "oh, where is my peg" when I tried to shift after leaving the turn. Anyways, I drilled it out & put a bolt with some rubber hose around it through the hole & it looks better than the stock one. haha

The bolt was free & so was the hose. It only took 30 minutes to make it look clean & tighten the bolt down.

good luck

I have been down this road with my Aprillia RSVR. Remove the lever, drill out the screw/rivet and replace the end of the lever with one of those neat little circular paddock stand bobbins that bolts to a bikes swing arm. It looks the part, is normally aluminium or stainless and will not damage your boots as there are no hex heads or sharp bits.

bolt and washers

Did happen to me,
Broken when trying to bend it back in position
Drilled throught, insert a bolt at the lenght, couple of nut to fix it, a bunch of washers, another couple of nut, and replace back the rubber part, a bit of glue to be sure that you will not loose this one,
And this is 10 000 km that i am riding with this fiw at no cost.
I bought later a replacement pedal from ducati to be used in case.

Brake peg fixed !

Thanks for all your help. Went with a hex spacer and a couple bolts and blue Locktite.looks like new!
